I enjoyed this movie very much.

There's currently a massive disconnect between viewer ratings and critic reviews of this movie. The viewers overwhelmingly love it, the critics mostly hate it. I always find it interesting when there is such a difference in opinion between the critics and the moviegoing public. All I can figure out is that the moviemakers understood their target demographic, and they aren't the critics. (The original star wars trilogy falls into this category, too.)

It was okay. It didn't have the originality and verve of the first one, but it wasn't weighed down by some characters whose interest was waning, or by an overly convoluted plot like many complained of the sequels.

I've never seen someone say so little with such a long-winded review.

He claims it isn't a review...it's more of a "Stop paying for **** I don't like so I don't have to see it anymore! If you disagree with me, you are a piece of **** and deserve to die!" kind of thing.

Though he's obviously not muslim, he appears to come from an islamic background. Isn't that pretty much the culture's motto?

They aren't unique to that philosophy.

Spanish Inquisition anyone?

Just got back. Really enjoyed it. Not as good as the first one, but better than the first two sequels, I thought. Best quote of the movie, once again, goes to Captain Jack:

"I support the Missonary's Position!"

LMAO. Priceless.

Also,

Penélope Cruz is frakin' hot!

Of course, I knew that before seeing this movie, but it's nice to have it reaffirmed, and all.

Sounds like he'd fit in great in Hellfire.

Oh, come on... That's pretty much everyone here's motto.

It was what I wanted - Captain Jack, some sword fights, and a fantasy element. Perfect 10 in my book!

Saw with the bug yesterday and we enjoyed it. I admit I missed a few of the "regular" characters but it was a good movie and the new folks were ok. Depp just does such and outstanding job with that character that it doesn't matter who you put around him.

On a side note, the new Transformers trailer was really cool. I'm hyped up for that one.

Home Alone is not a good movie. I like it when I was a kid, yeah, but I liked a lot of stupid **** when I was a kid. I like a lot of stupid **** now... :psyduck:

Box office cash does not a good movie make. At least we got home alone 2 and 3 to teach us our lesson!

Home Alone (1) was a fine movie for its target audience, much like "Spy Kids" or other children's faire. Not every children's movie is designed to hold up to adult tastes, this isn't a flaw in the movie. We've been spoiled by the likes of Pixar making movies with universal appeal.

Basically yes. Professional critics, IMO belong to another era. The average movie goer has far better tools their disposal these days. I don't see very many movies in first run, but it's been a long time since I've been outright disappointed.

Well...not really. Their tools just give them access to more critics. And generally, if there is a wide consensus about a movie, I tend to agree with them. The highest rated movies tend to be very good, and the lowest rated ones very bad. It's when the ratings are in the middle that the critics opinions are useless.

Looking more deeply at the ratings on Rottentomatoes, for example, On Stranger Tides actually does qualify as being "in the middle," despite a current 33% rating. Rotten Tomatoes considers any rating below 60% to be "rotten" or "bad." It's percentage is not an average review score, but rather the percentage of reviewers who gave it 6/10 or higher. They do list an average of all ratings below the fresh/rotten score, and for On Stranger Tides, it's at 5/10 -- dead middle of the pack. Which means a lot of the reviewers are giving it scores in the dead center.

This is true. I wonder who Transformers 3 is marketed towards...

Having now seen this movie, I do not understand the critical prejudice against it. I would rank it 4 stars out of 5 (with Curse of the Black Pearl getting 5/5, Dead Man's Chest getting 2.5/5, and At World's End getting 3/5.)
