Quote:
The film, which stars Antonio Banderas and budding actress Spanish actress Elena Anaya, focuses on a mad but brilliant surgeon (Banderas) who kidnaps a man who raped his daughter.

The doctor's daughter killed herself from the grief and it drives him to take very drastic measures. This is where it gets complicated and disturbing.

Banderas then gives the rapist a sex change and transplants his deceased daughter's face onto his body.

He later has sex with the man he has brutally experimented on and turned into a woman.

The movie also contained several disturbing rape scenes and nudity

OMG! Seriously?? That's frakking disturbing. Why would anyone even make that movie??

For money. There are a lot of weird people out there and for a lot of actors, if you're getting paid enough, you shrug and do the job.

For Banderas, he's been looking for a role that would let him show off his ability to act as more than a handsome latin lover or a cat in outsized footwear. He probably convinced himself that this was a great acting challenge.

FTFY

I doubt this movie is going to rake in money at the box office. Certainly not enough to pay Banderas if he charged his going rate...

Hard to believe anyone would take this acting job..I dunno that it will give him notoriety.

It already has, and this thread is (part of) the proof...

I'm amused that people seem amazed at a film like this, but something like Saw 47 (or whatever number they are on now) doesn't even raise an eyebrow.

Yeah. They're all equally unappealling in my mind.

I have also been avoiding the Saw/Hostel style of "horror" movies. To me it is an attempt to see how close to a snuff film can be made. When I want horror, I want suspense, build up, actual horror, not a gross out over the top blood bath. I can see that at work.

I would rather watch Carpenter's "the thing", or the original Alien twenty times over then the human centipede, audition, or this crap

I really enjoyed the first saw movie, for the twist alone...the rest of 'em though, are just based on a stupid plot device to watch people mutilate themselves.

Cross-post from the Pirates thread, in regard to box office not necessarily meaning it's a good film:

"The Saw franchise was placed in the Guinness World Records as the "Most Successful Horror Movie Series" at San Diego's Comic-Con 2010."

"Following the release of Saw V the franchise became the most successful horror franchise based on US domestic box office, grossing more than the Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream and Friday the 13th franchises in unadjusted dollars."

Guess they must be doing something right, or just that persistence pays off.

Personally, I'll take scary horror over gross-out horror any day of the week, but to each their own.

as much as I dislike the idea of what this movie is about...

What do you expect Antonio Banderas to do after Spy Kids (sequels) and Ecks vs. Sever?

he needs to get over those career bumps somehow.

I bet this movie wins all kinds of awards in the small movie circuts.

Some clown-shoes will probably call it "brilliant", and some other worthless twit will probably care about his opinion.

Haha, I hadn't heard "clown-shoes" in awhile. That gave me an early morning chuckle. Well played.

Elena Anaya was absolutely smoking in Fast Five. Other than her inclusion, this film appears to have few redeeming qualities. Maybe if they really delved into the psyche of the protagonist/anti-hero lead, but I doubt that's the case.
