Really, this. Choosing Thor as a film-worthy property always seemed to be a gigantic **** waiting to happen. It may still be crap, but the trailers we've seen so far indicate that it at least has a shot.

I'll have to be sure to select one of those theaters.

I happen to think it looks pretty good. Though I will avoid seeing it in 3D.

I dont think it looks very promising sadly. I prefer medieval viking thunder god Thor. This looks goofy.

So what you're saying is you feel the comic book movie based on the Avenger's character "Thor" should be based on the original medieval mythology rather than the comic book character also based on that mythology?

This pretty much looks like what I was expecting, and I'm every bit as excited for it as I was for Ironman/IM2/The Hulk/Captain America/The Avengers. I love the way they're tying everything together.

I dont specifically recall the avengers Thor, and I guess it depends on when you're talking, but Thor used to speak in "thee"'s and "thou"'s.

Sort of like an English knight or Shakespearean for lack of a better term. Yeah that doesn't make much sense either since he's a nordic god but this Thor appears to be more of the regular modern day American english variety. Which i know the comics transitioned into, but I prefer ye olde Thor.

Edit: Like this!

So, you want a Norse viking-god speaking in over-the-top faux-Shakespearian English, and yet this movie version looks "goofy" to you?

The pictures I have seen of this movie (specifically recalling a picture with Thor, Odin and Loki) gave me instant flashbacks to the 80's Flash Gorden and all that was hokey.

I wouldn't have high hopes for this movie.

The old pictures are why I linked to the ORIGINAL Thor topic in this very forum.

I don't know if people don't check my links assuming I'm going to rick roll them or if angry cat scared everyone off.

Overall, I am optimistic.

Yes. I want a Norse Viking God. Thor is a Norse Viking God.

Very goofy. Thor is punching some SHIELD agents? Dialogue like: "Oh no this is Earth isnt it?" I mean jeez he even fights a robot and it has a generic rock music sound track. My expectations are low.

Honestly, I couldn't recall which iteration of this board discussed that movie, and didn't care enough to go searching. That, and your angry cat didn't give me a hint as to what the link was, and I out of habit don't go clicking links on random boards.

Yes. And you want him speaking over-the-top faux-Shakespearian English. That's rather the definition of "goofy." The fact that he speaks English at all rather than Asgardian old-norse is a necessity for the audience that is obviously either glossed over or magical. Let's not compound it by drawing attention to it by using setting-inappropriate melodramatic BRIAN BLESSED English.

Quote:
I mean jeez he even fights a robot

I don't think that's a robot...more of a magical iron golem unless I miss my guess...although robots would certainly be fine for him to fight. This is the same world Iron Man is part of.

What do you expect, ancient hymns? Thor (the comic) is and always has been set primarily in modern day Earth, not in Asgard. This has to fit the same style as Ironman, Hulk, and Cap...

Thor speaks like Thor. Dashel is confusing Thor with the Marvel version of Hercules, when it comes to manner of speech.

Come on now people I'm not imagining this. How many more examples do I have to find?

This is what made him interesting. He felt and acted like a god, not a mortal. I enjoyed the interaction that allowed.

Ok well, that's better then ;)

I'll also say I did like the Loki helm from the little they showed.

I never liked that about that version of Thor. I never liked a Norse god talking like someone from medieval England. I liked Ultimate Thor because he acted how I would expect a Norse god in modern times would act. He was pretty much a hippie, which would make sense since the Earth is basically his mother.

I just googled Ultimate Thor. A mentally unstable hippie, pacifist, environmentalist liberal nurse that writes self help books? Thor? God of Thunder? Oh Em Gee.

http://www.writeups.org/fiche.php?id=3963

Quote:
Thorlief Golmen was a psychiatric nurse, until he suffered a mental breakdown, and was himself institutionalized for 18 months. The breakdown was a result of him realising that he was the god Thor, sent into the world by his father, Odin, to save it from apathy and self-destruction. He devoted himself to environmentalist causes, and opposing American imperial ambitions, and developed quite a following thanks to his speeches and self-help books.

Quote:
Nick Fury: "Sweet mother of god ! I thought this guy was supposed to be a pacifist, man."
Thor: "A pacifist with a big, scary hammer, General."

Read that description of the Ultimate Thor, and there is nothing in that summary that suggests this is a member of the Norse Pantheon, as a reflection of their lives and needs in creating their Gods, aside from the use of some names.

However, at least Captain Planet found a new identity that isn't quite so laughable.

I will admit to not having read a single Ultimate comic since Mark Millar stopped writing them. So, I am unfamiliar with the butchering that happened afterwards. Regardless, I liked Millar's take on him.
