Anyone catch it this weekend? My daughter and I went and saw it. Not a bad flick. Decent story...the kids were really good.

Wife and I saw it. I agree that the kids acted really well, and the cinematography was quite good. I can't say I loved the story as much, as the whole kids and "main plotline" felt really disconnected from each other and felt forced towards the end.

My wife's biggest problem was that
Spoiler:
the alien in this movie looked pretty dang similar to the Cloverfield alien. If you look at the two side by side there are a lot of similarities.

But overall I would say I didn't dislike it. I didn't love it enough to own it, but I didn't hate it.

Bout sums it up for me as well. Worth seeing again as a rental but not something I want to purchase. Did you stay through the credits and watch the kids finished zombie movie?

Yeah, the zombie movie was pretty enjoyable to watch. :D

I thought this film was great, with one minor issue:

100% CGI beasties aren't scary or awe-inspiring.

I saw this tonight, and perhaps it was because I had low expectations, but I liked X-Men a little better.

Haven't seen the movie yet -

Spoiler:
But wasn't this supposed to be the prequel to Cloverfield. At least, that's what all the rumors were, when the first teaser got released.

Please note that I haven't seen this yet.
Spoiler:
Yeah, no, NF. People were hoping it was a sequel or somehow related (I hadn't really heard that it might be a prequel, though). Given that the monster apparently resembles that in Cloverfield, and that monster's origin was never quite explained (other than some deep-sea drilling, a glimpse of an asteroid, etc.), then it would be pretty interesting if, in three years, Abrams comes out with a third movie tying them all together. Come to think of it, this one certainly has some thematic similarity to Cloverfield, in terms of both having a hand-held camera play an important role. Huh.
