This is a great show! I might have to watch Dr. Who, if it's anything like this show.

Doctor Who isnt as dark and gritty as Torchwood, but most people think its a better series

I love Torchwood - never seen an episode, but my wife loves it and many scenes in the series get her very...um, worked up.

Torchwood will be a good 'in' for you to start watching Doctor Who...Watch up Torchwood, then start with the first episode of the revived Doctor Who (it's titled "Rose").

Love Torchwood. Looking forward to this, although I'm going to have to wait another year or so to watch it on disc or streaming.

Thanks, Farsky! There are 31 episodes of Torchwood on NetFlix, when I get done, I will start Dr. Who.

I am amazed with Torchwood, it is so good!

I thought Torchwood was OK, but it was a bit on the dark and gritty love triangle side for me.

I prefer Who, but they're both good.

Lol, LOVE the dark, gritty love triangle stuff. That's what makes it fun :). If you just have a bunch of alien fights, that gets a bit boring ;)

Yeah, the creator of the show says Torchwood is the "more adult late-night version of Dr. Who". He considers Dr. Who the family friendly show.

I never quite signed on with the Jack Harkness character...he's really kind of a dick in Torchwood. I liked him as he was initially introduced, a side character and occasional companion of the Doctor.

Phe liked Torchwood (not nearly as much as Who, but it grew on her), and I was entertained by it, but it kinda wore on me after a while.

The third season, btw, was a five-episode miniseries called "Children of Earth." It was very well-regarded, but the BBC canceled it after that. The American premium network Starz rescued it, though, and it's premiering another miniseries-as-season tomorrow, this time 10 episodes long and with some American writers, including Jane Espenson (Buffy, Angel, Firefly).

Children of earth was amazing. Also, so heavy.

I have to agree with this. Plus I really didn't like what they did with the ending of Children of Earth.

I never really saw him as a dick. He was much more the roguish Han Solo type character. Was Han Solo a dick? (Well, kinda, but still a badass)

On his best days, yes, he was a rakish charmer/con man. But when he was in charge of something, like Torchwood, he was just a humorless dick. Also, he constantly looked like he was on the verge of crying. Maybe it's just John Barrowman's face. *shrug*

Or, ya know,
Spoiler:
conveying the sadness that he's older than the universe multiple times over, and has seen everyone he know and loves die so many times.

This. Also, I'm rather surprised
Spoiler:
the guy isn't totally batshit insane after that whole "buried alive for centuries" bit

Watched at a friend's house last night. Felt really good to be watching new stuff again, although it occurred to me afterwards that the trailer pretty much covered all the bases. Ended up with an entire episode's worth of
Spoiler:
****'s going down, the CIA and what's left of Torchwood are gonna see if they can figure out why
Still fun, though and I'm glad I got to watch.

By the way ... anyone else irritated by the bad Hollywood physics of Rex's impalement? I mean, even kindergartners can tell you that when a truck comes to a sudden stop, stuff doesn't go flying backwards out of the bed.
