Took my kids to see Cars 2 this afternoon. I went in with low expectations, having read the reviews.

And once again, like so many other movies this summer, I have to say, the critics entirely missed the point. I was chuckling throughout, just like with every other Pixar movie. Their attention to details was spectacular. Their satire of so many different things all in one movie was pefect.

Was it as good as The Incredibles, Wall-E or Up? Not even close. Was it better than A Bug's Life or Cars (1)? Absolutely. This movie might not be Pixar's most shining example, but it easily within the same quality range they've hit in the past.

I have to say, the critics have gone stark raving mad.

I'm glad you posted this. I have a fondness for the original Cars movie (it was the first movie I owned on Blu-Ray). I was debating going to a theater to see Cars 2 thinking, 'heck, it's a Pixar movie, it can't be too bad...'... then I read some of the reviews and decided to wait.

Next time I'm stuck on the wrong end of a traffic jam on 405 after work, I just might give this a watch...

I think I know the answer to this already, but going to ask anyway. Did you see it in 3D? or no?

Yes, I did. (Timing was everything here...the 2D version wasn't playing when I wanted it.)

Pixar always does a good job of 3D though, as far as 3D movies go.

The reviews I saw all like it, but they all had the same opinion of it. It was ordinary and people have come to expect more than that from Pixar. So while their average movies are still better than most others good movies, I think the reviewers were comparing this one a little differently and more against past work by Pixar.

It's only at 35% on Rottentomatoes (indicating only 35 out of 100 reviewers viewed it positively.)

Well like I said I think they are comparing it to the rest of Pixar's body of work which for them it isn't as good so hence the lower rating. However a bad Pixar movie is better than many other studio's good movies.

I enjoyed it. But I didn't think it was nearly as good as the first one was.

All of the Pixar movies have an "emotional climax," or a point in the movie that practically brings you to tears. This one just didn't have that emotion at all. It was very funny, and entertaining, but not what I would call "Pixar quality."

I like the majority of Pixar's movies...but I can honestly say I have never even come close to tears while watching one.

Only Wall-E and Up had that emotional rollercoaster that evoked tears for me. The Incredibles is by far my favorite Pixar movie, but it never came close to making me cry.

Toy Story 3, Wall-E, Up, Finding Nemo (Dory's speech still makes me cry every. damn. time.).

The first few minutes of up, made me very sad. Toy Story three was pretty bad too. WallE and Nemo, not so much.

Toy Story three crushed my soul and laughed at me the whole time. I cried like a little girl.
