New Sci-Fi... err SyFy (god I still hate that) original series.

Short description: A group of powered humans, (not mutant superheroes, just people that use their potential.) team up to solve crimes. A guy that uses his fight or flight response to have increased strength, a girl that can power up one of her senses at a time, a woman that can 'push' people (power of suggestion, etc.

Its in its first season, on Mondays after WH13 and Eureka.

And, its actually pretty good.

Anyone else watching?

I watched the pilot. It didn't pull me in, even though I was prepared to like it. I've got it set to record, I'll try to watch a few more to see if it grows on me.

It's ok. I kind of have the same problem with it that I did with Heroes. For a show about superheroes, there's not much superhero stuff going on.

Also, they are mutants in Alphas. ;)

I dunno if I'd call them 'mutants'. Not like X-Men anyway.

Nor would I really call them superheroes. They're just people that have special talents.

This. And yeah, they are mutants. They just have dull, "Syfy doesn't want to spend a lot of money on FX" powers. Hell, the "creator" was the co-writer of X-Men: The Last Stand.

I like David Strathairn, but the show didn't grab me.

It's better than Heroes, but that's some damning faint praise.

I watched the episode, and it was "meh".... But I'll watch at least a couple of more episodes to give it a shot.

Gee, I thought everyone loved the pants off of Heroes when it launched.

Time was not kind to poor Heroes. It burned up it's great first season collateral rather quickly.

Heh, Heroes. I guess what brought it to mind was a Cracked article I was reading last night on the most half-assed corporate attempts at "greenwashing," which included the following:

Quote:
For example, NBC's "Green Week" consisted of shows across the entire company being given a "green" emphasis - from Heroes, 30 Rock and The Office, to Martha Stewart and Top Chef. This initiative mandated that programs were to introduce at least one green plot into their shows in an effort to "raise awareness." Most programs just half-assed it, and this resulted in a lot of clumsy, shoe-horned plot lines and awkward soliloquies, but Heroes, at least, really committed to the effort: They recycled the same storyline for the last four years.

Heroes was great the first season. Then it ended and I never heard of anything happening after that first season.

(If people can do it with the Highlander, I can do it with Heroes)

Heroes was mediocre the first season and got worse after that. It was just episode after episode of people whining about having super powers and not doing anything with them.

Seriously, if you woke up one morning and could heal any injury nearly instantly would you really spend the next few years making snuff films and complaining that you're not normal?

In her defense, she was a teenage girl, and they are completely insane.

I like this show. I like the characters. I like the low key powers with realistic limitations. I like the Misfits of Science feel. I like the doctor as the spiritual successor of Max Wright.

I'm happy I'm hoping scifi isn't gonna be a jerk and make hulu wait all seaon again.

edit: looks like it's gonna be the generalized 30 day waiting period after eps 1. that's not so bad.

With so many new "analysts", there needs to be an urgent interoffice memo re: Gary and his pudding.

That was a pretty big cliff hanger to leave it on. They should at least give it a few episodes to wrap it up.

I knew Heroes was dead the moment I saw they left both Sylar and Peter alive at the end of the first season. Unfortunately I refused to give up on it, like the person continuing to try to resuscitate a person who flatlined several minutes ago.
