Full Length CGI Movie about Space Marines.

I'm gonna pick this up, not because I particularly care about space Marines. However if this goes well it means GW will likely do more of them. I'd -love- for Gaunt's ghosts to get this kind of treatment. The digital download is only $7. Blueray is forthcoming if you want to hold out for having this on your home theater and can't stream or you want something physical. Also anyone willing to try the "who needs movie houses" distribution model gets my

Okay that was pretty sweet. Very beautifully done CGI. The power armor and the vehicles look spot on exactly like minis themselves. The backgrounds are great and ship interiors are everything you'd expect them to be by looking at the art in your rule books. This is CGI porn for the space marine fan. The story isn't that involved and 76 mins is pushing the limit of what I call feature length. Several CGI "hey look what we can do" shots that are a bit cheesy to me, but would probably have a real space marine fan in his bunk. Overall, it's certainly right at the price for $7. Dan Abnett did the screenplay so I hope that raises the odds of them actually doing Gaunt's Ghosts in this format.

Really I think though this is a microsm (sp?) of everything a direct distribution model movie can be and why direct distribution model should prevail. They didn't pull any punches to make this appeal for the larger audience. They didn't have to stop and explain what a chaplain is or why the apothecary is extracting gene seeds from dead marines. It's a Space Marine movie for Space Marine fans. There is no way something like this would fly with the movie house crowd, but that's the beauty of the direct distribution model: you can make movies that don't have to play to the lowest common denominator.

watched this last night. It was pretty good for what it was, except the fact that it was Ultramarines and not Blood Ravens ;)

Well, it's just kind of the house style. The same house that inspires this image (and whose fans, self-deprecatingly coined the caption).

That's still on my desktop from when it turned up in the Random picture thread. Yeah Ara, it's just the way the world setting works.
