There is a disney movie being made of the Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars, first book in the Barsoom series.

Thuvia is the hottest.

45 years ago or so, I started my addiction of science fiction with ERB, and I've read every book of his I have found.

The movie can't help but fail to deliver though. My imagination > cgi

I just saw the poster for this last weekend, while in the theater for Captain America. I'm very excited, had no clue this was in the works. I'm kind of a Burroughs geek.

At the risk of being booed out of here: now that's the one with the different color races of Martians or am I confused

Never heard of it. I saw a preview and thought "Wow, after serving time as an ER doc, John Carter goes all interplanatory on us.".

Aware of their existence, but got myself completely burnt out on Burroughs before I even finished the Tarzan series.

Been meaning to pick 'em up ever since.

Totally read it as "the barroom saga" at first glance.

Aware of them, haven't read any.

I own first edition hard covers (and have read) every book Edgar Rice Burroughs has published (a couple in multiple languages for comparative lit essays).

Yes, that's the one - Red, Green, Yellow, White and Black. Wikipedia has a great page on Barsoom.

Looks like they're going with the four-armed depiction of the Green Martians, from what I could see. Boy, I hope this bodes well for them doing this right.

Don't worry, we won't boo you out. We will welcome you with a four-armed embrace!

Wow, the preview video impressed me, looks like it's pretty faithful to the books. Thought Tom Cruise's shelved project from the 90's had been the last major studio interest in Barsoom, so this is a nice surprise for me.

It has to be better than the low budget piece of crap Princess of Mars that's on Netflix.

But, but ... It has Traci Lords!

I came across it one day on Spike TV, I think, or something similarly cheesy. Took me a long time to figure out that it had anything to do with Burroughs. What's funny is that I know exactly where that big battle with guys up on the valley walls was filmed. You, too, can visit the Bat Cave!

It amuses me that the name is "John Carter," but the logo that goes with it is "JCM."

OK, trailer is up, and I'm very excited.

John Carter trailer

Not sure why it's called "female" trailer, though (if you look at the URL). Oh, and the "JCM" posters are now described on the site as "teaser" posters. Certainly worked for me. I think the movie itself will just be called "John Carter."

Cool trailer, it takes the cgi of today to do the story right. When I saw Woola the books came back...

It's a cut of the video designed to appeal to female demos.

Except for the fact that it's a desert world and there exist giant, four-armed green martians, everything appears to be entirely wrong.

I give John Carter the benefit of the doubt because it's directed by Andrew Stanton, who directed Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

Along the same lines, I'm giving (of will, if I can ever get the time to go see it) Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol the benefit of the doubt because it's directed by Brad Bird, who made The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille.
