I just rewatched the recent remake of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead".

Something has always bothered me about this movie, and I just figured out what it was...

Those bastards in the mall let Andy, the gun store owner, die; they had a truck right at the cargo bay to the mall. But in the presumably several weeks they were corresponding with Andy across the rooftops not ONCE did they try to use the truck to get over to him.

It would have been easy. They get in the truck via the roof: then they climb intothe vab... pull up to the gun shop, and have Andy drop to the roof of the truck. Once on the truck they getback tp the mall and have any use the fire ladder to get up there.

Once he was on the roof they could keep the zombies away with gunfire to allow the driver to get to the roof as well. Tada; he would have survived

What I don't understand is why Andy just didn't use all his rifle ammo to clear out one side of the mall.

Any decent gun stores is going to have tens of thousands of rounds for various rifles. More than enough to clear out 10 times the zombies shown around the mall and Andy's location. Hell given the signal that they were going to do something Andy could have cleared shop in a few hours.

That part actually makes sense to me. They did not know how the potential rescue situation was going to go.. so he did not want to waste ammo if he would need it in the long run. But the bastards in the mall did not care, they just wanted him dead.

The recognized his value as a crack shot and all the ammo and firepower he had. They just didn't go about it the best way - besides how would Andy move multiple pallets of ammo?

Use a torch to weld open the top of the truck. Once they have the top opened up they lower it from the roof. It would not be quick, but it would have worked.

Hell torching open the back of the cab and the top of the truck would have been ideal. It would have given them a way into the cab without jeopardizing themselves in the process. Then they could have climbed the fire ladder down into the truck and driven it to Andy's in safety, had him lower in ammo, and then drive back and use the fire ladder to et back to the mall.

If everyone was perfectly rational in movies most of them wouldn't exist.

I've often wondered what movies would be like if everyone was armed. A lot of horror movies would be really short.

It looked like Andy concealed his food situation from them until it was critical. Either that or poor plotting.

By the time they were aware that Andy was out of food, he was already pretty emaciated and malnourished, from what I recall.

Yeah. He seemed to keep it a secret for whatever reason. Not even the special Andy feature on the DVD explains why he didn't tell them. Andy was bad ***, though. Shame he had to die.

All that time they spent **** around playing chess could have been used to try to get him across. Regardless of the rescue situation, moving him and as many supplies as possible would have been ideal.

But that's just poor script writing*, because the chess scene lead into the Richard Cheese - Get Down With the Sickness Disturbed cover montage where we saw the Steve **** the horny blonde chick.

*megafail spelling it "righting" in that context.

I think that Unicron would win in a fight against the Death Star.

(aka, it's just a movie) ;-)
