And I'm not really using the full service.

What's out there? I know of Dish, but that's it. If I keep my internet ($55/month), is there a way to stream a decent selection of channels online?

Other options? What do you guys do?

We have basic cable through our HOA, but I don't pay for it (at least, not directly, of course).

We don't use cable. We have a Hulu Plus account, and for what that doesn't provide us, we purchase shows on iTunes to fill in the gaps.

Hulu+ and Netflix can cover a lot of shows, but I don't think all of them. There are always illegal ways to watch your favorite shows online as well depending on how you feel about that.

I have Cox Cable Internet. $25/month for the first 6 months, $45/month after that. And Hulu+ and Netflix.

If you are an Amazon prime member, you can get some shows 'same day' through their video service.

If you plan to switch to pay services like netflix and hulu+, the costs can add up quickly if you stack them. Of course if you are already paying for them, then there is no additional cost.

I find that Netflix doesn't get current/recent stuff very quickly, but honestly, I could not care less. There is very little on TV that I consider 'must see now'... in fact, I honestly can't think of anything, short of possibly some live sports (if you are in to that stuff) that can't wait until I can be bothered to find it online somewhere.

I think HBO is offering a lot of their stuff via an online service now as well, but again, the costs of these things add up.

I don't have cable. I refuse to pay someone to pump garbage into my house. I dumped it in 2008 and haven't looked back.

Top Chef, Chopped, Iron Chef are awesome! I've taken a lot of good tips from those shows.

For the longest time, I paid about $16/month for "Broadcast" - no box, cable hooked up directly to the TV, ended up getting a lot of channels I wasn't supposed to. then they started putting filters on the lines. But what really changed is that my mom moved in, and she wants to watch people doing stupid **** to themselves. So, she's paying for a "real" cable connection now. But if it was up to me, yeah, I wouldn't pay anything.

I remember the days of three big stations, PBS, and some weird independent station that showed Star Trek. And we liked it!

HBO has "HBO Go" which allows you to watch it on different devices, but it requires that you already have an HBO subscription through a cable/dish network. HBO loathes the idea of a stand-alone subscription service or a "Pay per episode" system.

I've been a "cord cutter" for over a year and I couldn't be happier. I'm not into sports and I probably watch far, far less television shows than the average person. I just watched season 2 of Sherlock through Amazon and that was good enough for me. Other than that, Netflix and Hulu keep me satisfied for 99% of the things I want to watch.

Honestly, even though they can add up, at $8 each, Hulu+ and Netflix are really a great bargain relative to anything else out there.

Thanks for the help. This gives me some directions to look into, which helps a lot.

I am personally fine with paying netflix 8, Hulu 8, Centurylink about 70 and DirecTV 110.

If I cannot find something to watch... I have problems.

Another thing to throw in the mix is that Comcast's monthly rate is negotiable (not officially, of course).

My wife calls them whenever they try to raise us to full price and threatens to cancel or switch to Dish (or w/e). So far (past 9 years), she's always been able to get a reduced rate and some sort of premium channel package to boot. You just have to play the same game again ~six months down the road. Currently, this makes our monthly bill about $50 to $60 less than if we didn't call them.
