I'm a bit disappointed. About all this movie is really good for is a thrill ride. There are fight scenes. There are flight (chase) scenes. There's even a story, but the plot is simplistic and predictable, and worst of all, lacks closure.

Light spoiler:
Spoiler:
Even the "superspy vs agency" conflict that we've come to expect from the Bourne series is completely missing. Sure, the agency is trying to kill him, but he makes zero effort to take the fight to them. All he pursues is escape.

Heavy spoiler:
Spoiler:
There is, of course, a "stronger, faster, better" agent from an even more secret superspy program than the one that created Bourne and his contemporaries; and the agency, of course, sends him to kill the main character, but their entire confrontation with each other consists of a car/motorcycle chase through the crowded streets of Manila and culminates in the next-gen superspy buying the farm in a crash caused by Rachel Weisz's character. The two never fight hand-to-hand, Jeremy Renner's character doesn't actually kill him, and the crash actually made it into the trailers. In fact, if you've seen the trailers there's really nothing left the movie has to offer.

The movie was enjoyable for the action, but really didn't satisfy on any other level for me. I'd recommend not paying full price for this one. Catch a super-cheap showtime, wait til it hits the "dollar" theater, or even just wait til it shows up on the small screen.

Of course, if this is just part 1 of a multi-part story arc, quite a few of my objections go out the window. In that case, all I'd have to complain about is not knowing that beforehand.

So the 4th Bourne movie is worse than all of its predecessors. Kinda figured.

Thanks :)

Added the bold to match my reaction.

None of the Bourne movies featured Jason Bourne, not in any way that resembled the originals, anyway.

Robert Ludlum was not one of my favorite writers, but in the Bourne Identity he told a spectacular spy story. Almost the entirety of the original plot was missing from the idiocy that was Matt Damon's movie. (Wasn't his fault, he didn't write it.)

The second and third installments had nothing in common with the books other than the titles. I'll admit that this actually wasn't such a bad thing. Only the first book was good...except they still didn't entertain me.

Eh. I mildly enjoyed the first Bourne film, and tried to watch the second one but felt it stunk on ice. I didn't even finish it...I fell asleep around 3/4 of the way through the movie, and didn't care enough to go back and watch the missing piece (I woke up during the credits).

If you're looking for a great spy-filled action movie starring Jeremy Runner, I can't recommend 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' highly enough. If you're looking for good solid spy flicks, I'd stick to the revamped Bond films. Even though the new Bonds obviously took inspiration from Bourne, the Bourne movies felt lacking (style, heart, I dunno). Maybe they just weren't up my alley.

Just saw it. Overall enjoyed it, but it's really all just a big setup for the next film which is disappointing.
