I work on a AF base. It's a good 20-30 minutes from my house and 15 from downtown. Because of this, I eat lunch at the park on base 97.3 % of the time(I did the math). I have 45 minutes for lunch and it's usually something my loving wife has prepared for me. During that lunch time, I watch movies and shows on my iphone via my netflix app. I get my monthly subcriptions worth would be an understatment.
With all that said, I have run across a ton of movies that I had either never heard of(mostly) or didn't get around to watching. I occasionally will watch a movie I hadn't seen in a while if I can't find something that interest me. While there is certainly a lot of "meh" stuff out there, there is also a lot of pretty good movies that a person just may never have heard about. I'm going to give two examples here and will update this thread a different times. I've been meaning to do this for a while and I didn't want to mess up the scary movie thread.
Seven DaysI had a stretch there of wanting to watch some gory stuff. Read the description of this movie and thought, yeah ok. Was thinking that this would be a not as comical Hostel or something. Well, it's like Hostel in that it has some very painful scenes in it but that's about it. There's no spoiling of things that isn't in the movie description...it's about a guy who gets revenge on the scum that raped and murdered his daughter. It's in French so subtitles are throughout but really, you don't need any. It's so well acted and filmed that you get a good sense of what is being said or not being said. There a many, many cringe worthy moments in it. If you are squimish, it is not for you. To sum up, this is the best way to describe it for me...I'm a father, I have kids...I have a beautiful 11 year old girl and if you asked me what I would do to someone who did something like that to my daughter...I would come up with all kinds of horrible things that I would want to inflict on that person. After seeing this movie, it made me seriously rethink if I would actually have the stones to pull it off. If you can handle watching someone get tortured, then give this movie a chance.
The ExperimentVery good flick. I was surprised at how well this was done. Brody and Whitaker are very good. This is a make you think kind of movie. I’ve read about real life social experiments like this and I can imagine it wasn’t that far off. Not cheesy at all. If it came out in theaters, I never heard about it. I would have paid 8 bucks to see it.
