That's... a real Bond theme. Evocative of the 60's, Nancy Sinatra or Shirley Bassey, and yet modern, too. It's perfect.

Yeah I dig Adele. That chick's got some pipes.

That preview actually made me interested in seeing the film.

I enjoyed Casino Royale (though it was kinda draggy in places), and thought it was quite good. I've got the Blu-ray of Quantum of Solace, though I've never watched it. I've never been a huge Bond fan (I've seen all four Brosnan Bonds; I love Goldeneye [which I just bought on iTunes since they're having a sale on all of the HD Bond films], and enjoy The World is Not Enough's goofy charm, but Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day were absolute junk). Strangely, given my history with the franchise, I'm actually becoming excited for this one. I love the theme (I generally like Adele, and upon the announcement thought "Yeah...that seems right"). And Sam Mendes (American Beauty) is directing, with Roger Deakins is lensing. So yeah, interested.

I still think Goldeneye's the best Bond film.

Craig is my favorite Bond by far.

I was a huge Bond fan, at some point in my younger years. My ranking of Bond Movies:

Very much like (In order from most to least favorite):
Casino Royale
Thunderball
GoldenEye
For Your Eyes Online
You Only Live Twice
From Russia With Love
The Spy Who Loved Me
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Quantum of Solace
The Living Daylights

Indifferent toward (In no particular order):
Dr. No
Goldfinger
The World is Not Enough
Live and Let Die
License to Kill

Really Bad (In no order at all)
Diamonds are forever
Moonraker
Octopussy
A View to a Kill
Tomorrow Never Dies
Die Another Day

That's only 21...I'm missing one somewhere, I'll need to look later. I'll add comments, too.

The man with the golden gun. Otherwise your list is pretty spot on. I don't know if I would have ranked Casino first, but the good/meh/ugly is right.

The world is not enough has a sole remdeeming quality. Q's departing words were so very true in that he passed within a year.

Not a real bond movie.

And damn, i can't believe I forgot Man with the Golden Gun. I love that one. The villain is Darth Sarumanga!

Trailer is awesome.

Disappointed in the theme song. Not really sure what I was expecting, but that wasn't it. It comes off as weak to me. The last 2 theme songs were infinitely better IMHO.

I'm always going to refer to John Cleese as R, but we will see about this new guy.

The last two (Another Way to Die and You Know My Name) didn't immediately scream "Bond" though. If you heard them without seeing the movie, you wouldn't even know what they were, just songs you might here on some top-40 list somewhere (except they didn't make it that high on the charts).

Skyfall would be recognizable as Bond music to anyone who's watched the series. It really sounds like it was ripped from the 60's.

Hey, a lot of people don't like it because it was an actor they don't recognize. But I'm not alone here, Lazenby and that movie got critical approval for it, too. It was Lazenby himself who chose to only ever make a single Bond movie, not UnitedArtists.

Bit of Trivia: First choice of the director to play Bond in that movie was a very young Timothy Dalton (way back in 69.) He declined, believing himself too young for the role (he was only about 25). 18 years later he had a second opportunity to play the role and he took it. (Most people didn't like him much, though.)

I took another listen and I think I figured out what I don't like. The chorus section seems really weak to me. I like the other sections and agree that it harkens back to the classic bond style themes like:

But with Shirley Bassey she's got that real edge on her voice which really makes the song. I know Adele can do that to and frankly was expecting more of that in her song. Hers comes off as more of a lounge song to me.

There's a weight and sorrow to Adele's song that I think tempers the song and calls for restraint.

I don't disagree, but that's part of why I don't like it as a Bond theme. Bond isn't sorrowful.

I think "Bond" as a concept is pretty much wide open for redefinition at this point (i.e. the post-Casino Royale era).

No no no no no.

We tried to redefine bond with Pierce and make him touchy-feely and not a womanizer. **** to the no.

I agree completely here. I hate the chorus section, the backing vocals are lousy. I ignore them because the rest of the song fits so well, but yeah. You're right.

Yup, that edit of the song is infinitely more powerful than the full song. Largely because it takes the most powerful sections of chorus and cuts out the wimpy parts.

Don't get me wrong, totally psyched to see this movie. I'm just a little disappointed with Adele's work, it could have been better.
