And it moves to the wait for rental stage for me. I was praying for a good World War Z translation.

Actually, from what I'm reading, this follows the book remarkably well, considering the book as is was pretty much unmakable as a film.

Wiki wrote:
The screenplay was written by Babylon 5 and Rising Stars creator J. Michael Straczynski, who identified the challenge in adapting the work as "creating a main character out of a book that reads as a UN Report on the zombie wars". Marc Forster signed on to direct, and described the film as reminiscent of 1970s conspiracy thrillers like All the President's Men....

When asked about his involvement with the film, Brooks stated that he ... favored a role for Brad Pitt and expressed approval for Straczynski as screenwriter. In an interview with Fangoria, Brooks said, "I can't give it away, but Straczynski found a way to tie it all together. The last draft I read was amazing."

An early script was leaked onto the internet in 2008. Ain't It Cool News reviewed the script in March 2008, and said "This isn't just a good adaptation of a difficult book... it's a genre-defining piece of work that could well see us all arguing about whether or not a zombie movie qualifies as 'Best Picture' material".The review also noted the film appears stylistically similar to Children of Men. According to Ain't It Cool News, the film follows Gerry Lane as he travels the post-war world and interviews survivors of the zombie war who are "starting to wonder if survival is a victory of any kind".

I suspect the story elements seen in the trailer are mostly the introduction to the movie.

The stuff taly posted gives me hope. I just didn't see the book in that trailer. That bring said, I'd see it anyway.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen so many CGI people.

They are not people anymore at that point.

OK, if it has JMS involved (he's busy lately!), then maybe it will be OK. That's a glimmer of hope. Not that I've read the book, but I'm just kind of tired of the blockbuster tropes.

Runner zombies? Did Max change his mind about them in that book or is this Hollywood taking some liberties?

Because in Zombie Survival Guide he pretty much states his love for the slower shamblers.

Pretty sure there were some runners in WWZ. Want to say I remember a chapter that had them.

There are two things that bother me in this trailer that I don't remember from the book.
1. I have no idea who Brad Pitt plays, as far as I know there was never a central player like that.
2. While there may have been some runners in the book, it was nothing like the madness in that trailer.

From the same quote above...

The great thing about the book though was that it covered stuff that happened all around the world. Stories that were not connected at all, and some of them were good because they were stories of how people survived with no help.

Having a central character doesn't make sense in that case. Now instead of the movie will focus solely on this one guy and all these great stories will be left by the way side.

I heard that most of the JMS stuff had been binned ...

"Straczynski’s draft was reworked by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom), who was apparently tasked with turning the WWZ movie into a PG-13 global thriller/horror flick that has franchise potential."

Nope. No franchise potential.

Watchable, fairly entertaining. Also: terrible. I saw JMS's name attached and I thought, Hey, this could be good! Then I came here and saw that most of his stuff hadn't made it to the final cut, and my god, it showed.

So, so, so many "really movie?" moments in this thing.

It was good. Nothing earth shattering. Worth the price of admission. Still disappointed they didn't make a movie out of the novel. Only thing from the novel that I noticed was...the movie title and the military guys called them "zeke".

Spoiler:
all I know is that its certainly not carrier based, and certainly doesn't have the range to get from New York to South Korea in one hop. Nor does it then have the legs to get to Israel from SK in a single hop on one of those(see pic below) full of gas. [spoiler]

Reminds me of I, Robot and I Am Legend.

They have the name in common, and that's about it.

Oh, and in this case, there are also zombies.
