My daughter is looking for new anime to watch... I'm understandably hesitant about some of the stuff out there and though you all might be able to give some guidance on what is appropriate for a preteen child.

She's mentioned Sargent frog and "pera nova"(she's not sure on the last)

You'll probably have better success on searching for stuff on the internet if you spell it 'anime.'

I don't really watch Anime or read Manga but the movie Princess Mononoke should be a must watch for anyone who enjoys cinema.

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki is amazing.

This is always a good place to start.

Also, how much of a preteen? like 6-7 or like 10-12?

Do not show Mononoke to a pre-teen. It's not a little-kids movie.

Yeah, it's a bit bloody and gooey at parts. And there's some scary imagery for kids in the single-digit age ranges.

Tell that to the idiots who brought their 4 year old to Blade 2...

If you're looking for serials instead of movies, it's pretty hard to go wrong with Robotech.

Azumanga Daioh is a classic, and it should be age appropriate. It's a bit old so she may have seen it already.

Hetalia Axis Powers is also an over the top comedy, similar to Sgt Frog. It's quite popular with female anime fans, based on what I've seen at anime cons.

Really? I'm first with Avatar: the last airbender (anime, not crappy live action).

Fruits Basket
Tokyo Mew Mew
Card Captor Sakura
Snow Fairy Sugar
Full Moon O Sagishite
Inu-Yasha
Ruroni Kenshin
Angelic Layer
DNAngel
Ouran High School Host Club
Strawberry Marshmallow
Pokemon
Digimon
Sailor Moon
Pretty much anything from Ghibli

These are the ones that came to mind. You'd want to look and see, cause different kids are ok with different things. Some are a tad violent, some show characters smoking or drinking, some might prompt a question or two you may not want to answer. But these are ones to look at. (And sorry most of these are girly girly, I only wanted to list the one's I've seen all the way through... so... lots of pink.)
