So, I figured I'd wait to make a thread until I'd finished reading it.. because trying to keep a spoiler-free conversation going among multiple people who are different degrees through the book is a nuisance, at best. So, let's talk, and we'll keep the spoiler tags going (but at least this way, we all know there's *somebody* who can talk to everybody already).

If you guys want to talk earlier Dresden or Dresden in general, here's the most recent Dresden Files thread I could find.

So who else has read/is reading it?

I finished it last night. It was a very enjoyable read.

Spoiler:
I knew Molly was in for a major change, and began to suspect it about 100 pages before it happened, I just guessed wrong as to the season.

Who the heck is Mac? For a while I thought he might be a Bacchus type demi-god, but he's too somber for that.

End of book spoilers to respond to Micheal:

Spoiler:
Yeah, I'd probably be somewhat less miffed if Molly had been Lady of Summer-ified, instead. Though, still miffed -- that would put her and Harry at odds more directly. As for guessing it, I saw what Mab's plan was for Sarissa once Harry told her she was coming to Demonreach. Not too terribly hard, but my gut actually expected her to not end up with Winter, though I didn't realize it at the time -- instead, I consciously thought to myself "but.. Sarissa isn't an 'M'-name..." Of course, Molly not being a changeling prevented me from following that up and making that connection ahead of time. I don't mind saying I felt just the slightest bit cheated at that sucker-punch. It's the kind of thing Butcher doesn't do very often, and that's one of the reasons I like him.

I'm hoping that what Harry's been told a few times in Cold Days about mantles not being everything extends, to some extent, to those held by the Fae themselves. If so, then perhaps Molly won't slip that much further than we've already seen (considering her recent schooling and falling apart, mentally) and can be harsh without sporting cruelty, be calculating without being coldly so, and bring some element of her darn good upbringing and early education to Winter.

Perhaps, also, we've been a bit lead on with regards to the norm for the Lady of Winter. After all, we don't meet Maeve until after Lea gets corrupted, so it could be that we've never seen an untainted Lady of Winter.

The other thing that strikes me is that Molly could well be more powerful than Maeve, since she's got the training with mortal magic in addition to whatever Fae talents she'll pick up. I'm assuming she'll essentially lose access to her mortal magic (though the training could certainly cross over, especially considering her talents). In any event, since there was no indication that Sarissa is gifted in the Art at all, she's probably got a head start on Sarissa -- and that's the point of where I was trying to go...

If Molly's head start shakes out as useful, then Winter's got an edge.. Perhaps a bigger one than it had before. (And Mab not having to keep one eye on Maeve on the home front certainly helps in any event) This will probably prove useful in the conflict with the Outsiders -- weakening Summer without weakening Winter means Winter can shift some of its forces/focus on the home front towards the Outer Gates as things get hairy.

Pardon the pun.

I, too, am definitely curious about Mac. Whatever he is, the fact that it wouldn't kick in until the bullet was removed might be a clue. I give low, but reasonable, odds that 'Mac' might be short for something that helps, too, rather than simply a Scottish/Irish patronymic.

The Kringle reveal blew my mind, and had me grinning from ear to ear. It made me wonder, though -- I don't remember seeing the Erlking in a similar other role; but Harry made a few comments that made me wonder if I was missing something, there.

Too bad we're so far away from each other. This conversation would go great over pizza and drinks.

Spoiler:
If the Major General left us any.

Speaking of which...

Spoiler:
Celery and Milk... is that a gender thing, or is there some qualitative difference between Toot-Toot (and crew) and Lacuna (and crew)? Lacuna seemed pretty convinced that pizza was a horrible thing to feed to the Little Folk, not just that it's not her preference...

Good question

Spoiler:
I don't know, there are so many possibilities. Urban versus rural fae, spiritual beliefs, gender - as you mentioned, health conscious versus not, keeping the sense clean. Yes, I thought about that too. I suspect we will learn more in volume 15.

Why is the Winter Knight weaker than a White Court vampire? If Harry is close to 7' tall and his brother is just under 6' tall, how do they share shirts clothes?

This volume raises some interesting questions.

I really like Cat Sith.

Spoiler:
Yeah, Cat Sith is pretty fun. Well, that is to say, his interactions with Harry are pretty fun. And I love that Mab assigns the most playfully vicious faerie around as Dresden's concierge, forcing him to get extra used to careful phrasing and finding the line between pissing off every faerie he meets and keeping them reined in, while simultaneously amusing the **** out of Mab, I'm sure.

Harry's not quite 7' -- I've always pegged him at around 6'7" or 6'8", because he describes Rashid as being just under 7' and notably taller than him. Meanwhile, he usually describes himself as "well over" 6'. And he's also said several times that he's mostly limbs. So if Thomas isn't as leggy, I can buy they share shirts. The times when Harry's borrowed pants from Thomas, Butcher makes a point of pointing out that they're way short, too.

I'm not positive that the Winter Knight is weaker than a White Court vampire -- but the White Court vamp is definitely quicker. I don't remember a scene where a direct comparison stuck out at me, which is why I'm not willing to hazard a guess -- was there a specific encounter you're referencing when you say that?

Spoiler:
I assumed Harry was slower/weaker than Thomas due to Harry suppressing his Winter power for nearly the entire book
