Is this the confluence that will bring peace between Star Wars and Star Trek fans? |

Well, that's going to be shitty ... Sorry, but J.J. Abrams has been doing nothing but crap lately. Alcatraz, the final season of Fringe and its total non-ending. And then there's the whole Lost debacle ... The only decent thing his recent history is Star Trek. Other than that, I'm content to call the man a hack. |

He doesn't write every episode of those shows. I think a better comparison would be to look at his movies. |

He keeps signing his name to this schlock though ... |

Here's my only problem with it. One of the things he's always said is that one reason why he felt he was a good fit for the Star Trek movie was that he wasn't a big of a fan of trek as your average trekkie. He is far more a Star Wars fanboy, and even did his best to give Trek more action similar to, in his own words, Star Wars. So, if Star Trek turned out well because he wasn't as interested in it... Star Wars may turn out poorly because it's helmed by an uber fanboy. Here's all I know: Uwe Boll could direct the next Star Wars movie and it would still turn out better than what Lucas could do. So, I still remain optimistic. |

I'm just pleased Lucas isn't directing. I will take anyone else and be optimistic until it's proven that it sucks. |

Abrams has made some really good movies. He's made a few things I didn't like, too. Ultimately, though, he's just directing here. The primary writer Michael Arndt has done only two things of note: Toy Story 3 and parts of Brave. (Both outstanding Pixar films.) Lawrence Kasdan being a very involved consultant to Arndt can only be a good thing. Abrams has no real control of the script, he's just directing. |

I like J.J. I have hope that this won't suck. |

Star Trek and Super 8 leave me cautiously optimistic of Abrams's directing skills, while Fringe, Alcatraz, and Lost leave me incredibly wary of his production and writing skills. |

Mission Impossible 3 was directed by Abrams and was a decent movie. Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol was produced by Abrams and was the best MI movie. (Brad Bird directed, though.) Fringe was awesome at times, and lousy at times. Same things can be said for Alias and Lost. Alcatraz never had time to get going, really. I'm not convinced Abrams should be making TV shows. Bit of useless trivia: Abrams also composed the rather awesome Fringe introduction music. |

I should really watch ghost protocol again after not being up for 20 hours. Maybe it would be better (not that it wasn't pretty decent |

I was kind of sad that Cruise was going through his crazy period and I think turned some people off to it. |

Unfortunately, HK is also less recognizable. A droideka (sp.) or a regular battle droid would have worked well. I'm optimistically cautious. After all I'm not as full o hate on the prequels as some people. I think that we could do a lot worse, especially considering that 6(ish) months ago we were all convinced we weren't going to get these movies anyway. |

I know I was. At least it didn't have to come to that. The SW universe is dead to me, so at most he can pee on the corpse. We'll see how it goes. |

I like (and am still trying to catch up on) Clone Wars, though I'm wondering what's going to happen to that now. It looks like season 5 is still running with a new episode (though I am a season and a half behind) hitting last night. I like the series and I hope they either finish it this season or Disney plans to let it continue. |
