Ok, so my gaming computer is finally back running, and I'm back playing EQ.

I remember a few people had come back, but I wasn't sure how many of you stayed playing.

I have characters (51 and lower) on Fennin, and then I have a double box Ranger/Shaman set at 80 on FV.

So, where are you, and what are your chars names?

Nephyr (51 Ranger, Fennin)
Baner (25 Monk, Fennin)
Jemi (80 Ranger, FV)
Emrah (80 Shaman, FV)

I have an 85 ranger named Embrul on Fennin that I barely play anymore and I have an 83 SK named Coreilestraz on Fennin.

I also hate myself for playing this game. I hate myself a lot.

Ah, EQ..... The love/hate relationship.

I found the gameplay in WoW a lot better, but I never liked the community nearly as much. And honestly, with an MMO, it's all about the community.

Looks interesting, but this is weird:

Bat wings will no longer be for sale.. anywhere

And, they have more people playing that (795 at the moment, it says), than on Shards of Dalaya. Huh.

Sorry, no EQ here. Just not hard-core enough to make it worth the money.

That was a mistake, they put the bat wings back on the correct merchants.

Phew, OK, good, all is right with the world again if you can bat wings at merchants!

Wow, the gear inflation is a lot to catch up with coming back.

My stuff was mostly Solteris/SoF raid gear with a bit of TSS stuff in the mix, and it's almost all obsoleted by group gear now.

The thing that I miss most is all my macros and hotkeys. After 7 years spent developing and perfecting them, it's a long run to get them all back up to par.

At least I was able to remember and re-create most of my spell sets.

I came back at level 75 in mostly Demi-Plane/Cultural/Anquish raid gear. The moment I hit 85, I more than doubled my melee DPS just be changing to group dropped weapons I picked up while exping in OBF and OCD.

For reference, fully buffed when I came back I was around 18K HP... now raid buffed in full Tower Hard/4.5, I am at 53,000 HP.

Its a huge jump, and takes some getting used to, but the gear scales quickly, and honestly, the group level armour from UF is on par with the Tower raid armour.

Since I'm on FV, I'm actually looking at upgrading to a combination of full TSS raid gear (relentless hunter's and prismatic bow captain), and wearing that until I get some of the good underfoot stuff, which being as I don't have underfoot yet might be a little while.

I'm sitting around 24k/3.2 AC unbuffed now, with all my mod2s capped (except being a tad short on Shielding), which with a few upgrades should let me power on through SoD progression with my shaman.

I'm still there. Exploring the lowbie game with alts galore on Tunare (soon to merge with Seventh Hammer).

Out of curiosity, anyone know why SOE hasn't shut down those emulator servers? Seems like a clear violation of Sony's IP rights, and it's not like the emulator groups hide their activities.

They have shut down at least one, I think they figure the others aren't worth their money in court costs.

They did a Cease and Desist order on Winter's Roar - the predecessor of Shards of Dalaya. I gather that they all came to some agreement; one of the rules on the SoD forums is that you can't say "Everquest," or "Sony," too, I think. They get asterisk'd out in posts. So, people talk about The Game, etc.

But, yeah i think it's just not worth their effort, at some point, to shut them all down. Can't be more than, what, a couple thousand people who play on them? And, those people (me!) probably wouldn't pay to play, anyway.

Still playing EQ here. On Tunare (about to get Seventh Hammer merged in).

Real life is kicking my butt too much (Oil Spill response) to have time to play games.
