I know the fresh, clean, new server smell can be quite a draw. Instead of doing a "gimmick" server this time around, they're just doing a straight up new server. No transfers allowed. It's not exactly a classic server, but there certainly won't be twinks for a while, as people work their way up and through. Not sure if everyone follows the news, so I thought I'd share. |

I don't think EQ will ever recreate the environment that kept me for so long. It was a hell of a game, and I got what I wanted out of it. |

No, the environment doesn't ever re-create... But from playing on Stromm when it first opened, the feeling is quite close. Especially because it brings back a number of people playing in the old newbie zones, which brings a lot of life back to the game. |

I'm actually fairly interested in this. I might resub for a month to see how I feel. |

If anyone's interested, I'd roll a char on the server and I'm sure Midgen would too. We could make a "Ranger's Glade" guild and mess around old school. |

Ooh temping. I wonder how long it would take the place to get worked up. I don't have a lot of time these days so I'd probably fall behind the curve quickly |

They also announced that they'd be starting work on a new time-locked progression server after the new expansion comes out this fall: SOE wrote: Progression Server - A progression server has been asked to be launched for quite some time. When we did the polls last year, the Mayong 51/50 server was chosen as the front runner and a progression server was chosen as a runner-up. The Mayong launched and had a great turnout but we are ready to turn a new page with that server and move onto the next best thing. After popular demand and much feedback by you, we believe a time-locked progression server is the best one to launch next. So we're discussing the best time to launch and best roll out plan to unlock each expansion so that content is maximized and accomplished and balanced so that you are not rushed nor left behind. Scheduling for a Progression Server - We are currently all hands into development on our House of Thule expansion (launching October 12, 2010) and we are giving it as much attention as needed to ensure a great launch. Focusing on a progression server launch will have to come after the House of Thule, where as a schedule will be determined at that time. We have a time frame in our minds that makes sense to us and with our schedule but we will hold off on announcing that time frame until after a successful expansion release. For those who don't know, "time-locked progression server" means that the server launches with only the Old World active, and the expansions will then "unlock" one at a time at pre-determined intervals (my guess is every few months). I'm seriously considering re-rolling if/when that actually happens. In the meantime, I'd be game for rolling a character on the new Trakanon server if we have a critical mass of Glade people interested in doing the same thing. I'm sure most of us here would be very casual players at this point in our lives, so I doubt there'd be much concern about people getting left behind. Would just be fun to have some friendly/familiar regulars to group with. |

Pretty sure they said the progression server won't be able to make it out until January at the earliest, although they're starting work on it in October. Glade raid on CB ftw! |

http://www.project1999.org/index.php Anyway, they still have not pushed out RoK but it is getting close. Up to 900 some odd people playing on a daily basis. |

Does leveling up still take.... for....ev...er....and.... ev.....er........? And they ever get rid of those G.D. "Hell Levels?" I will say that absolutely no MMO has ever come even close to 1/100th of the feeling I had after camping and finally downing the Glacier Bear for the Totemic Helm. While global spawns on an 8 hour timer (with a 1 in 5 chance to pop on each of those 8 hour timers) sucked rocks.... it certainly did create a sense of accomplishment if (and only if) you overcame it. |

Leveling in EQ is nothing compared to what we remember, 'buk. Global armor/aug drops plus mercenaries make it a breeze. Bash good! |

Raell, Definitely not. It's not as fast in say EQ2, or WoW, but with a little support from NephyrS, I've leveled a Ranger from 1 to 55 and 40 AA's in a fairly short time. I'm not exactly an intense leveler by nature, so I'm sure folks who really put their minds to it and know the best methods and locations, could knock out 60 levels in a few hours of /played time... You can still level slow (smell the roses mode) if you want to, but if you want to level fast, take advantage of the hotspots, get some decent armor cheap, hire a mercenary that pairs up well with your class (Im using a cleric Mercenary on my Ranger), it can go pretty fast. The only real downside for me, is trying to keep the casting skills up with my levels. I'm getting too many fizzles. :p I'm not sure if all of the leveling aids (mercenaries, hotzones, etc...) will be available on the new server... It will probably be a tad slower than one that's been around for 11 years :p... |

All the leveling aids will be available on the new server, with the exception (of course) of twink gear. Leveling is quite fast through about 60 now, and then drops off slowly until 85. It's still reasonable- you can solo the whole way, with a few days per level at the most, and less than that in a good group. |

Solo leveling with mercs only, you can easily do 3-5 levels per hour through 60. If I am powerleveling a toon, I can usually push level 30 in about an hour, and another hour to get to 40., double to tripple that if the persone being power leveld is a newb abd doesn't understand what they are supposed to be doing. Without even working hard, I can push a toon to 85 on less than 10 days played, and my daughter's shaman was oly 15 days played at 85 with 1000 AAs. So, yeah, leveling is a lot easier than it used to be. Also there a massive number of factors / game mechanics that have changed to improve your EXP rates. most of been mentioned in other threads many times. Things like fast med/regen out of combat, out run a mob and lose agro, smoothed out leveling rates, revamped mechanics for melee and casters, stronger pets, pets no longer "poof" when you camp, zone, invis, LD etc..., shared bank space, buffs not decaying the lobby or the guild hall, guild hall ports, guild lobby corpse summoning, spells no longer clumped, instead are spread over many levels, your equipment is always on you, even when you die (ie you no longer loot your corpses), 4th year vet reward (summons all your active corpses and 100% rezzes any with rez timers) clerics with 100% daily AA rez, cleric buffs no longer require components (except the DI series), weaker buffs no longer overwrite stronger buffs, shaman and druid no EXP (but no penalty, ie it doesn't effect your rez timer) summon you to your corpse AA rezzes, druid and wizard single target ports, druid and wizard secondday binds, druid and wizard port to bind, daily quests that give lots of EXP, daily quests and continuously repeatable quests giving plat (e.g. level 15 quest giving over 100pp, a fishing quest during the anniversary month, that can be done daily and gives 4500pp, etc...) mercs, upgraded mercs (through group progression tasks), mercs counting towards required numbers to get tasks, mercs not counting against the number of people that can do a task (merc in zone, compelte a task for a friend added to task, even when AFK in lobby, they get credit, though not always EXP for it).... And that is barely scratching the surface of the changes. EQ is no longer the game it was 6+, 7+ years ago. Gorse |
