I might give this a shot.. but it would be with great skepticism. Especially if there is no graphical improvements. There is no way those 1999 graphics will hold up today.

And that UI.. ugh... meditate staring at your spellbook?

Well, people generally ask for the '99 stuff because they hate most of the graphical enhancements.

That said, the Velious UI would probably be included:

I didn't think about having to stare at your spellbook. I would think that it'd use the same client, and the modifications such as textures and ui are client side.

Only until level 35! It's not that bad with the fullscreen interface.

I could be misremembering, 35 sounded right.

Edit - it was actually level 37 when you could stop looking at the book to meditate.

Meditate used to be a button within your spellbook that you had to press each time you wanted to meditate. So for the first 37 levels of your life, you had to look at the spellbook for hours while you were medding. After level 37 you were considered to always be medding when you sat down.

This could be interesting.

Although, I'd prefer PoP era.

PoP killed EQ...

I really started losing interest around Shadows of Luclin though. For me, that was an epic jump the shark moment.

PoP was the second best EQ expansion and could have been, lore wise, a good end to the franchise. Unfortunately the nature of MMO's forced them to keep going past it...

This. GoD killed the franchise.

Locking raids to 54 from 72 caused me to quit because I was the #3 ranger, and wasn't needed anymore. :(

What kind of a bullshit guild gets rid of someone because they're "not needed any more"?

FFS.

I can't play EQ. I'm unable to exhibit any kind of restraint.

Nono, they didn't get rid of me, I just didn't have a raid slot anymore and so I retired.

But..but..but...you were such a good ranger, Arafys, I aspired to be just like you!! I even did run-by bonkages on your noggin when I would see you in Norrath!

The raid limit thing was kind of like the response to the fact bosses in PoP had just become attrition fights; remember killing Rallos Zek? That was ridiculous.

IMO, Kunark and Velious were the best raid content. I thought the Four Dragons and Trakanon were solid encounters. Chardok was fun enough. Velious had oodles of content from the 10th Ring War, to going through Thurgain, Kael Drakkel (AoW was a serious hoss) and Skyshrine, the rare Kelorek`Dar sighting, all the Western Wastes First Brood dragons+Dragon Necropolis and of course ToV and ST. NToV was a little bit much in terms of the raw horsepower you had to bring but it was really fun. PoG was a huge pain in the *** but Tunare had some really sweet drops rivaling Vulak'Aerr gear. I'm gushing. I loved Velious.

Shadows of Luclin **** blew, IMO. Ssraeshza Temple was fun but Sanctus Seru was just stupid. Vex Thal was easily had one of the worst designed artificial barriers to entry in gaming history. I think most guilds on Terris-Thule just skipped VT and farmed Velious content and Ssraeshza Temple gear until PoP was released. PoP refreshed some of what made Everquest raiding so distinct but I think it was clear EQ was on its last legs. IMO, this should have been the final expansion and would have been a fitting end to the game.

PoP didn't have attrition fights, at all. Especially to guilds that were used to farming VT (which I think skipping was a mistake).

I loved depths of darkhollow expansion (minus the damn spider queen raid). The rise of mob emotes as reaction triggers was a huge boon and separated the wheat from the chaff in raid guilds
