KOTOR is playable on Win7. Friend of mine had to do several things to get it to work.
It's likely a pain, but it is possible.
I'm sure I didn't try everything, but I tried enough, and it failed badly enough, to make me pretty fed up with it all.

Huh. I've never had a problem. I play/bought my copy through Steam though. Maybe if you add it to Steam.
Adding it to Steam does nothing more than create a shortcut in my Steam library - so that wasn't any help. If I were willing to spend $10 to re-purchase the game via Steam, I'm sure that'd work just fine. I simply am not willing to re-purchase a game I already own and am not likely to ever play again. I was just Jonesing for some Star Wars while I was waiting to get into the EGA, and now I don't need it anymore
I have the Steam version, and it still gave me major problems with Windows 7. I managed to get it to work, but the pre-rendered cinematic cutscenes still play @ like 640 X 480. Which would be ok if I was playing at that resolution, but at 1920 X 1080, it shrinks the movies down and puts a huge black border around a tiny movie in the middle. And sometimes, when the cutscene was over, it had bumped my resolution down to 640, so I'd have to change it back. Very annoying. It does not play well with widescreen resolutions at all. I finally just gave up on it.
