The main inventive for pre-ordering is playing early.

And the main incentive for Bioware to allow (and encourage) a portion of their playerbase to play early is to spread out the influx of new characters.

So it's actually optimal to have a mix of pre-ordering people and release day people, from a community standpoint.

Oh, I should also point out -- you can join the guild without pre-ordering, if you wish.

There's a new beta weekend coming soon. It will be letting everyone that signed up for beta before 11/11/11 into the weekend beta. Plus, if you played in this last beta weekend, your characters will still be available to play during the "everyone gets in" beta weekend.

The times I played on an rp server, I did not find the playerbase to be more mature, at least not by a significant enough margin to overcome the smaller pool of players for groups.

Woot. Well, to the first, I realize how distressing the second part is. ;)

Now, go sign up for Glade Guild.

I can overlook being punched in the balls. What rankles is that I have to pay money for the privilege. :)

Yes, but think about your lovely wife. There are at least 16 more companions to crush on!

Of course, we'd have to share a computer, which means split gaming time. Her laptop won't handle it. I might could sweet-talk my 2-year-old MacBook Pro into it, but I dunno...and that would necessitate a second (double eww!) copy of Windows. :)

Application sent.

I doubt this is an issue, but I won't be role-playing.

((I spent some time on a RP server in City of Heroes.))

((Nobody ever roleplayed, as far as I could tell.))

((Everyone just talked like this instead.))

RPing on the RP server isn't a requirement. But as Taly said, the people that play on them are generally less irritating than those on the normal servers. Especially the PvP servers. Sure, you get a lot of people in the starter zones being obnoxious just to come and harass the RPers, but even that is pretty rare(at least it was when I played WoW).

I tried an RP server in WoW for a few months with a couple of friends. All I can really say, is that some things cannot be unseen. It was a shame what that orc was doing to that gnome on a remote floating island.

I have little experience with RP servers. I don't mind if players want to RP, as long as they don't mind when I don't RP.
My perception has been that RP servers often seem to be less populated, so I opt for a plain old PvE server most times.

I am amused at the balance of classes on our roster.

Yeah, 2 of everything, and then I think it's Odom who's still undecided.

I think everybody who's replied in the roles thread has tentatively declared tanks so far, though, so the roles probably aren't quite so evenly distributed. ;)

I'm planning on a consular healer. I've been playing a sorcerer healer in beta and have enjoyed it so far.

Yeah, and Rane said maybe DPS. But that's not the point.

I mean, heck, I'll probably end up with one of each even if I don't commit to multiples of each role, but if left to my own devices, I'd make the Shadow first. ;)

One of the things I want to do on the stress weekend is to see what I think of Commando healing, though.

I found I really enjoy tanking in WoW. But I don't mind healing or DPS, as well. I'll probably have enough alts to fill any role required.

Except, it's not. By pre-ordering SWTOR, you get up to 5 days of early access. That's a pretty big deal in an MMO. You can get out of the early quest hubs long before everyone else logs in and starts clogging up the servers. Not to mention being able to reserve the name you want a lot easier than everyone else.

http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20111104-0

Quote:
One of the benefits to pre-ordering Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is that you will gain Early Game Access before launch on December 20th. This is a chance to start your epic Star Wars saga early, as you’ll be able to create and play your character ahead of the official live game launch.

Many of you have been wondering how long Early Game Access will last, and we are now happy to announce that depending on when you redeem your Pre-Order Code, you will gain Early Game Access up to five days before the official game launch date.

Early Game Access is staggered over five days to ensure a quality experience for players at launch. Staggering access aids server stability and a gradual increase in player population through the game. Early Game Access will be granted according to when your Pre-Order Code is redeemed at the Code Redemption Center. If you have not yet pre-ordered Star Wars: The Old Republic, there’s still time! Visit our Pre-Order page for more information and watch the Collector’s Edition Unboxing video for a peek inside this highly coveted edition of the game.

Keep up to date with the latest official news on Star Wars: The Old Republic, including any updates on Early Game Access by visiting http://www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com, or by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter.
