The official announcement http://www.swtor.com/galactic-strongholds The discussion on reddit- peeps seem excited http://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/ ... n_details/ Personally, I'm kinda 'meh' about most of it. The Legacy Storage thing is probably the most exciting news.. that and that crafting is being expanded, which should hopefully stimulate the economy a bit. If you are seriously considering a move, The Harbinger is, by all accounts, a good PvE server. It also has the advantage of being the server that many of the APAC folks moved to when their server was shut down, so it's fairly busy at night (US time) as well as during the day. I rarely use the group finder for anything except the tactical flashpoints, which do not require specific class makeup, and I rarely wait more than 5 minutes for a queue to pop. PvP is not a thing for us, but it seems there is a decently sized PvP community on the server despite it's PvE status. I mostly play Republic, although I do have four level 55 empire characters as well. I usually play a couple of nights a week, and sometimes on weekends. I have a set group of friends that log in on Wednesday evenings (Pacific time) to run four man hard mode flashpoints. We don't have enough active players to run 8 or 16 man Operations (four online is a good night for us) and I haven't bothered to try to GF/Pug any of them. Before you make the leap, I would suggest making a new character there and seeing how the network connections are for you. I see a lot of people complaining about latency, but I rarely experience any. I'd make sure you have a good connection before you make the leap. My guild is comprised of a couple of day time working co-workers, and a few RL friends. We are all on the west coast. There usually isn't much activity after 10pm-11pm on weekdays. A bit later perhaps on weekends. A couple of the guildmates also use the Mumble server for a weekly Pathfinder game on Saturday nights (they have a dedicated channel in Mumble for this). If you play in the weekday evenings, other than Wed, I'd be available to run weeklies and heroics with you (I have lots of characters on both factions to choose from), so it would make the commendation gearing a little easier. If we find other guildmates online, we might be able to run some hard modes. Friday evenings would probably be the best opportunity for that. I have a mumble server you could join to chat, or you can send me a PM if you have more specific questions. |

um.. wow! This sounds like it's going to be fun! I'm either going to have to recruit some peeps to <Magenta Squadron>, or bail and join a larger guild :p http://www.swtor.com/info/news/article/20140423 Bruce Mclean on swtor.com wrote: 04.23.2014
Producer Letter – Galactic Strongholds Hi everyone! For the past year, we've made it our goal to share updates and information on what’s happening in the studio and our upcoming plans for the game. We got the message that you appreciate transparency and want to know what we are working on. With that in mind, we wanted to share a change in plans to our most recently announced digital expansion, Galactic Strongholds. We have been listening to what you, our players, were hoping to see from the Galactic Strongholds expansion. When playing early builds of Galactic Strongholds it became that clear that our June Early Access date was simply not enough. For this to truly feel like an expansion, it needs to include the full set of features, including those originally coming later in the year. So what does this mean? We are moving the start date for Subscriber Early Access from June 24th to August 19th in order to deliver to you the most features at the highest level of quality. The result will be a far more compelling experience, including additional features such as the ability to place your vehicles and pets in your Stronghold and for Guilds to conquer planets . To conquer a planet, Guilds must complete weekly Conquest events earning points to place at the top of the Guild Leaderboards. Conquering a planet gives the Guild special perks and rewards. This means that Subscribers will be the first to play the full slate of expansion features (everything!) at the start of Subscriber Early Access, a month before everyone else. This additional time allows us to add:
Combine that with the original feature list…
The additional features and time shift means some adjustments in other parts of our plan: May 4th remains the Subscriber deadline for Bonus Cartel Coins Grant to the sweet tune of 1000 Cartel Coins! May 11th is no longer the deadline for Strongholds Early Access rewards but as a thank you to all of our Subscribers as of this date, we are giving you the following rewards:
July 15th is our new deadline for Subscriber Rewards for Early Access, and you must be a Subscriber by this date to claim the Subscriber Early Access Rewards:
Preferred Early Access and the Official Launch will follow in September and October. Be sure to visit http://www.swtor.com/galactic-strongholds for more specific dates and details. Our goal is to keep you informed, so stay tuned in the next couple of weeks for an update on the summer roadmap, including Game Update 2.8. For all of us working on Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, we appreciate your support. We’re extremely excited about Galactic Strongholds and can’t wait to share it with you. Keep the feedback coming! See you in-game! Bruce Maclean Senior Producer |

Patch 2.9 and Galactic Strongholds are here! http://www.swtor.com/patchnotes/8192014 ... rly-access Servers are back up now, I hear. Can't play until I get home, though. I have to say, I have mixed feelings about this update. It looks and sounds amazing, and on one hand, I'm really looking forward to it. On the other hand, I barely have enough time in this game to do all of the OTHER stuff I need/want to do. With all of the new things added with this update, I'm afraid I'll never get to finish them, or even finish leveling my other characters. Haha. Silly thing to be worried about, but, there it is. Dailies, PVP, GSF, Ops, HM FP's, crafting, and now strongholds and conquests...does anyone else feel overwhelmed with the sheer amount of things to do at 55? Maybe it's just me. But seriously, Guild Flagships and Planetary conquest sound amazing. And the new changes to Makeb will make me actually want to take my fresh 50 character there. Hehe. Looking forward to these changes, and seeing what's in store for 2.10 update. |

I haven't played in a couple of months. Summer riding activities have taken priority. I'm definitely interested in checking this out though. Hopefully as the dark, cool weather sets in, I'll have some time to sit down and patch the game and see what kind of goodies they gave me. |

Well, we’ve started our 2nd week of Planetary conquests. Last week, our guild Saberwing, got 4th place on Alderaan (Ebon Hawk server). I have to admit, it was a blast! We had a lot of fun running Heroics, PVP Warzones, and going after the Imperial Commander. And the most fun, by far, was the Open World PVP that broke out anytime one side went after the other side’s Commander. I can’t tell you how many Imps I Force Pushed off the bridge leading into House Trader’s Circle, heh. This week, I’m looking forward to some GSF battles for a nice change of pace. But it seems my fears were not totally off base. I feel more obligated to login to my main characters, and participate in Conquests, or at least do something to contribute to my guild’s conquest point total. It’s making it really hard to login to my alts and level them up, unless of course, they can also contribute in some way. But not all of my alts are in the same guild, or even the same faction. My guild is totally cool about this, and they even say, that Conquest participation is completely voluntary. But listening to Teamspeak / Guild chat, and having them say how close we are to catching up to the guild ahead of us – or worse, that another guild is catching up to us – really kicks my competitive spirit into overdrive, and makes it hard to work on anything else, or any other characters. I have to say, that I really like how many different ways there are to contribute. Crafting, PVP, Heroics, Commanders, killing 250 NPC’s, Starfighter. It seems like there is a little something for every type of player out there. Unfortunately, there are multiple reports of guilds abusing the system, and the repeatable elements. There are a couple of heated discussions going on in our server forum, about the top guilds exhibiting questionable behavior, and it’s turning something that started out as really fun, into something very ugly. Imps logging into their republic alts to taunt the Commander away from guilds that were already engaged in a fight with him, in order to ‘reset’ him. Or queueing up for ranked PVP against other members of the same guild and either purposefully dying quickly or using /stuck to end the matches quicker, and abuse the repeatable 2X bonus. Things like that. I hope Bioware finds a way to minimize these types of actions without hurting the competitive intent of these conquests, because this is the most fun I've had in the game in a very long time. |

The main advantage of a stronghold seem to be the free at-will travel to fleet/ship/planet with your stronghold on it. Other than that, they're really pointless. |
