Hmm. I've been playing around on some of the database sites now that the NDA's been dropped, mostly looking at class abilities for healers and tanks, to try to figure out some playstyle differences so I can offer better advice to people with questions.

So far, I've waded through the healing abilities, and it's looking like Scoundrel healing weighs in more heavily on Heal Over Times, and its more powerful stuff is restricted by requiring and consuming a buff that the Scoundrel gets when it (or a groupmember? It's hard to be clear, here) kills an enemy, or when it uses either a specific melee move, or a stealth opener.

Commando healing looks to be the "big heals" guy of the 3, but his more powerful stuff is on cooldowns. It looks like he's got a mechanic where he can kick his burst healing up even more periodically, by building up "charges" to maximum with some types of attack and then consuming all of those for 10 seconds of removed cooldowns on one of his good heals. Finally, the Commando can get a reactive heal that lasts 5 minutes for 10 charges.

The Sage looks middle-of-the-road, with some heals that are heal + HOT and shorter cooldowns. Sage also looks like the best group-healer, as his AoE HOT looks massive in comparison to the Scoundrel's, and the Commando's is kind of poor. The Commando is probably expected to make up for this with use of the reactive.

Now, time to look at the tanks.

Thanks for the info!

Your effort here has not gone unappreciated.

I am interested to understand how the ACs stack up if you spec the shared tree. I find myself intrigued by the thought of an assault vanguard.

The shared trees are, nominally, dps trees. They tend to focus on enhancing the core class abilities (the ones that you get before 10).

Scoundrels get a tier 1 talent that causes Upper Hand to trigger off their main cast time heal.

It triggers when their allies kill enemies, I believe, and is also used to trigger their energy regen booster.

Also, there are -lots- of abilities the main class grants post-10.

A heal that's triggered by an enemy kill? Interesting. Reminds me of the Captain class in LotRO.
Captains are awesome in big fights with lots of trash mobs - every time something dies, they get to heal and/or buff the party.
If the Scoundrel's mechanics are anything like that, they could be very handy.

Also, eventually, the Sawbones can get a talent that allows Upper Hand stacks to increase healing by a percentage.

Does the game offer multiple specs? Or once you're a heal/tank/dps... that's what you always are.

You can respec your talent points, but you cannot change advanced class.

So make sure you're sure before you pick your AC.

Not at launch. There has been a lot of requests for dual specs, so the devs have stated that it's likely they'll add a dual spec option (skill points only, not changing advanced classes) post-launch.

At launch, paid respecs only.

To head off questions, Gunslingers and Sentinels (and their Imperial mirrors; advanced classes with no non-DPS roles) have trees that offer different styles/types of dps. Trees that focus on stacking bleeds, trees that are good burst, trees that are good sustained, etc. So they're not "handicapped" by dual spec offering them a non-DPS role -- they can better adjust their DPS for a broader range of situations (PvP, boss fights, yard trash, etc.), instead.

I am playing scoundrel/sawbones atm. Reached level 20 yesterday.

I will get stack HoT when I hit 21 (took one point in another tree) today. :)

I haven't grouped much at all with the scoundrel... and the few times I did... I did 95% of the chatting... I hate feeling like I am playing with a robot. I hate PUGs for that reason. If you are going to invite me to your group... please take the time to write something back if I ask a question (like if you are ready?). Thanks for letting me vent there... I feel much better. hehehehe

Speaking of which, will we have a vent channel? or some type of voice chat? *prays* *crosses fingers*
