Here is the situation: Melee mob group versus ranged mob group. When I order my companion to attack the melee mob group the ones that are not tagged by splash damage or actual damage/taunt make a bee line for me and start whacking me even though I've done nothing but tell my companion to attack. When I tell my companion to attack a ranged mob group they all start shooting at the companion; even the ones who have not been dd'd/taunted/hit by splash damage. I've encountered this on Taris time and again. Companion grenades/shoots one rakghoul and the rest who have not been damaged run up and starting whacking me. Companion grenades/shoots one scavenger/pirate etc. and they all start shooting the companion. Is this a function of not being high enough in levels to get access to a companion aoe taunt and therefore I should just expect it until the aoe taunt is obtained? Should I just disable the ranged options (I'm looking at you Corso "Harpoon" Riggs) and tell him to go run up and smack the mob? This also may be an expected difference between a ranged tank versus a melee tank. And/or I need to micromanage my companion's initial onslaught. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something with regard to aggro. Oro |

At lvl 40, I have similar problems with getting everybody to hate on Corso. |

Maybe this is the place to get some advice on tanking. As a guardian does one run around hiring all the mobs before settling on one to take down in order to have them all attack you? Or is there a better way? What to do when there is crowd control but you need to gain aggro? |

When I'm tanking, I'm constantly changing targets, trying to build up aggro on the various mobs. |

We should test the CC aspect of agro. From my perspective as the one laying the CC, I have never noticed any mobs persist in hating me when it comes time to wake them up for their beat-down. I don't know if this is due to low agro count from CC, or proactive taunting from tanks. |

My Sith Juggernaut was in a group with 3 other people who were 1 to 2 levels higher. I am not a tank, nor was I tanking. But for some reason the mobs really liked attacking me even though I wasn't using AOE abilities nor was I the first into the fray to aggro a mob. It was fairly annoying. The only thing I could do was give myself an extra few seconds before jumping into the fray. That helped a bit. My only theories are that a lower level adds to active threat, even when threat has already been established... or.... I believe I was out-damaging the other DPS folks a fair bit (playing hyper-efficiently, specced well, and focused on the right stats is my enjoyment from these games). It's possible that being the leader of your group in terms of damage may also generate it's own active aggro. All I know is that I was getting smacked by things I wasn't attacking at all, where in other MMOs I would have been invisible to them. |
