There are lots of fan sites and media posts out there talking about this stuff.

Here is the link to the trailer video

Some time 'this year' they are raising the level cap to 55, adding a new planet (Makeb), adding a new companion (HK-51), and a new playable race (Cathar), not to mention a few other things. Not a whole lot of detail, but I thought I'd start a thread.

I really hope the new planet comes with new Class quest.

I know they said they don't want certain races because "in the movies they weren't the main heroes" but it's my hope that they eventually cave and let people play things like wookiees, rodians, gamorreans, (I'm even fine with ewoks). Sure, a wookiee's dialogue when speaking to anyone would be "Raaawwwrrrorrraaarrrr" but who really cares?

There will be a new planet (Makeb), new class missions, a new companion (HK-51) and a new playable race (Cathar, unlocked via Legacy i believe) at some point this year, presumably via an expansion, or some kind of DLC.

Actually, the main reason they didn't put those races in is because they aren't human enough for romance subplots. Doing the makeout scenes in the romances would look kind of funky with a rodian or gamorian doing the making out. Same with playable droids. Wookiees are a little easier to do, but the dialogue would be the issue in that case. Don't get me wrong...I want them to work the more monster looking species in(I want to play a trandoshan bounty hunter so bad), but I understand where they are coming from.

The reason has more to do with the similarity (or lack of) of the body shape/sizes. As it stands now, there are four body types across all of the races. And many of the races are very similar in facial features, with a few cosmetic differences.

It was simply a matter of conservation of effort during the pre-launch development.

Cathar is an easy win as it uses the same body shape as humans, cyborgs, miriulan, miraluka, etc... They just have to add a few cosmentic features to make them viable.

When body and head shapes start changing dramatically, it creates lots of problems for armor fit, especially visible headgear. As it is now, companions with odd body shapes (Bowdaar and Khem Val for example) armor is pretty much invisible. Your only option for changing their looks is to purchase 'customization' skins from the merchants.

Adding new playable races that involve 'unusual' body shapes/sizes is going to depend on whether they are willing to commit development and testing resources to the effort.

I'm personally skeptical that something like a Jawa or Wookie will make it into the game as a playable race any time soon. I think they have their hands full as it is.

I'd play a wookie, but what I want now is a Chiss Trooper. Just need to stop breaking the bank trying to be a self sufficient crafter and pay the legacy fee.

Or level one to 50 on the Imperial side :p

True, but the time spent to level an imp, then level the trooper back up...I'd be at it forever!

I'd have three or four level 50 characters now if it wasn't for the fact that I still spend most of my time playing Raell. I do think it would be cool to play one of the Voss or a droid.
