Well.. That ended abruptly. I guess YouTube wasn't informed of the late start, or something.

Oh, dear. Wingman just posted that YouTube booted the stream because the fans present started spontaneously singing Happy Birthday to one of the CIG CSRs whose birthday is today.

/facepalm

This is why we can't have nice things, Copyright Trolls.

I think it sort of depends. I don't want a space sim where people can just fly anywhere utterly immune from attack - but I also want the attackers to face risk. Griefers like to set up situations where they face no risk. That's harder woth manual piloting in the first place, but I want the devs basically to make "ganking" unattractive. Gankers and griefers are risk-averse; part of their satisfaction comes from engaging people that mostly an't fight back or escape. I'd like to see this managed by making aggression dangerous to the aggressor, rather than heavy use of the banhammer as a primary option. People that bend the rules to avoid the risk can be banned. As for the goons, I suspect they'll run back to EVE shortly after release when they realize they can't just throw numbers at everyone else. Keep in mind that The Mittani is goonswarm propaganda on any matter they're actually involved in, so that article may be exaggerating their presence. Kaffis is right, Roberts and company are well aware of them.

So, I'm not sure where the high res concept for the Retaliator came from, but it's legit -- it matches up with the thumbnail in the store.

Somebody did a quick size comparison by sticking a Constellation next to it and matching the standard docking ring sizes.. this thing is huge!

Ooh, and a Gladiator pic at a decent resolution...

Lolz @ the cloverleaf interchange in the background. Much wider than I expected for the carrier-based bomber. Maybe the scale's a bit deceptive, and that's a hinge at the downturn on the wings. Love the anhedral on the wings and tail fins, though.

What type of ship is the Retaliator? Presumably combat, given the name, but what role does it fill?

It's the aging heavy bomber. 6-man crew, 5 turrets. All the missile slots which, along with the Gladiator, are rated all the way up to cap-killing torpedoes.

Oh, man. Last night, there was an odd cut in the livestream that felt forced -- it looks like it was actually a skip to current-live content that ended up cutting out like half an hour of the great pre-produced content, including a TON of art reveals. Concepts for pilots, the new Gladiator's official reveal, unseen concept work for the hangars and ships, the dev tool they're using to test fire weapons effects, and way more.

I hope they post those videos individually -- the full livestream is 83 minutes (but is up), which is way too unwieldy to embed and promote discussion here..

It's a space B-17!

It is. There's a reason I decided I must have one, sight-unseen. Several of my favorite WWII movies are Flying Fortress-centric.

Oh, fantastic. As I continue to chip away at the full livestream in slow minutes.. Erin Roberts and some of his Starlancer cohorts in Manchester are full time on Squadron 42. BLATANT NEPOTISM!! Erm, I mean, I really liked his games, too.

New Hangar patch coming today. I see an Avenger in-hangar, and the "privateer" outfit... sweet. Fish tank tomorrow, too, and a "few other things that I can't show you.. just yet."

I'm planning on springing for additional ships if I ever get a paycheck again. The Retaliator will definitely be going on the list.

Hornet commercial at the tail end. Not sure how I feel about it. Very different feel, but.. I'm just a little disappointed in the direction they went for it.

Brochure and commercial release today, along with new Hornet variants.

It seems to have hints of the WC-1 Hornet, although I can't put my finger on why. It doesn't really look like it, although the green and white is a little similar. Maybe it's the wide "cheeks"?

I'd really like to have one, but 250... well I guess you'll need crew for yours...
Dibs on Ball turret.

Oh, there's plenty of crew spots to go around. :)

11 Retaliator Concept shots

7 Gladiator WIP in-engine shots

We're closing in on me needing to decide how to distribute my ships between my 2 characters, though. That's going to be an agonizing evening of me trying to balance out options.

Okay, so they're holding the official release of the Hornet commercial and brochure back a week for more polish.

In the meantime, we get the introduction to the Aurora Legionnaire, in the form of a charming little commercial focusing on the Aurora's customizeability.

And yet people still hate us, which is even more strange considering the fact that nothing has actually done any flying yet. I guess they are just jealous that they spent all that extra money on a 300i when they really didn't have to.

My Legionnaire upgrade isn't showing in hangar yet. I wonder if burning down my digital mercenary , the upgrade, and buying the main package would help. I wouldn't loose my other perks right?

Bought a second account with a Legionnaire. You know, for the kids.

Does your Legionnaire show up in the hangar then?

It's a known issue, Rori. They haven't finished implementing the upgrade check in the Hangar. It's a valid account item that the inventory system doesn't know how to interpret, yet.

If you melt and purchase the LN package, that'll show up immediately, but depending on your OB/VB/NB status, it might result in a more expensive option. Otherwise, wait a week or two for the upgrade system to be fixed.

Looks like I have to wait 24 hours. Even though my ship hasn't 'changed' yet, the Legionnaire commercial is playing silently on the flat screen above my personnel exit door, which is pretty freaking sweet.

Definitely glad I can wander around in something other than that awful white spacesuit, lol. It's not terrible, but I don't find the sort of quilted texture on the white parts (the majority of the suit) to my taste. I want my test pilot suit, lol. And some hair.
