Forum scuttlebutt from people who had been on the Idris waitlist (which was set up by concierge services to redirect melted Idris M and P pledges to people on a first come, first served basis) is that said waitlist is being closed. The email which announced the closure is indicating that as we approach the November 26th LTI cutoff date (after which Veteran and Original backers will no longer get LTI on new pledges and add-ons), all limited ships except the Scythe and Idris-M will go back on sale in some fashion.

So if you missed out on, say, a bomber, an Aurora LN or LX, an M50, 350r, Starfarer, or Caterpillar, earmark some cash (or prepare to melt another pledge) for later in the month. ;)

So I've got my dogfighter goodness wrapped up. I think I want a cargoey sort of thing. So I can tool around, explore and engage in less than savory commerce transport.

Hrm. Starfarer* is the king of cargo capacity at 75T, though it's (currently?) limited to fluid tanks. Other high capacity ships include the Retaliator (30T with its bomb bays stripped out), Caterpillar (20T, though I'm guessing more if you do a module swap; it's a huge ship that's currently dedicating modular compartments to boarding crew housing), and Constellation (35T), though they're all multi-crew ships.

The Freelancer* is a fairly affordable hauler at 20T, and the Cutlass, Avenger, and 300i offer 10T cargo offerings with more punch than the promised (but still yet to be delivered) 10T Aurora Clipper model.

* Two-seater ships.

If I got a Freelancer, could I run it solo?

Continuing my love affair with the 300i hull, I'll be looking for a 350r. Probably the last ship I'll buy pre launch, or at least for a while. I would love a Hornet of some sort, but just too expensive.

The big Box Stor All A, the Aurora's 10 ton Rail box appears in the Legionnaire commercial so hopefully it's still in the works. I'm sure it is considering even the Stor All mini (the 5T box) is still not in engine. I'm hoping to have a Big Box for the Legionnaire.

Does this mean they will have some more of these limited ships done by this time?

Yes. You would have to hire an NPC or grab a buddy to man the rear-facing anti-pursuit turret, but for anticipated quiet shipping runs, soloing the Freelancer sounds completely reasonable.

Hmm. You've got a 300i and a 325a already, right? If that's a Digital Bounty Hunter + a 325a add-on, you could probably melt those two and pick up a Digital Colonel, straight-up. Then add on the 350r like you were planning...

That would leave you with a 350r and an F7C, with both a 300-series chassis and a Hornet chassis to play around with instead of 3x 300-series chassis.

I think the Stor All Mini is represented in the in-engine ship model, it's just not broken down as a removable part on the holotable yet. I'd have to double check to be certain, though.

As for having more done? I think that's probably more to hope for, but if it were me, I'd spotlight a ship a day and pepper the fans with glamor shots of the finished exterior models (and interior concept art or WIP in-engine shots, where available). I think at this point, all of the limited ships are at least at the painted-over exterior 3-d concept stage.

I'd rather have the 300i and 325a than the hornet, though. The Hornet is more "nice to have". I can always get it in-game anyhow.
Edit: To be more specific, it's really the 325a I want. If I had a way to melt the 300i and get the Hornet, I would and still have the 2 other versions of the hull.

I have to admit I am tempted by the 350R. But also pondering something bigger as a hauler. Specially if an NPC could pilot a second ship while I escorted it. But retaliator set up as cargo runner, or a Starfarer for the capacity, or a Connie since it is so much more customizable that the retaliator...

Give me the lowdown on the best single person combat ship currently available.

(New long term contract allows for a little more fun spending).

Nobody knows what is "best" because no one has flown anything.

Basically you several choices in one person ships, each with several variants.

The Mustang has just been announced and we don't know anything about that yet other than its being billed as the Chevy to the Aurora's Ford (or vice versa if you prefer).

The Aurora is basically billed as the "basic ship that's anything but basic" Small, lots of options. The "Legionnaire" version seems to be as almost as well armed as the base 300i, but not as fancy

The 300 series is the "Luxury Sport" Single seater ship. Sleek, quick and well armed. Several variants including some for heavier combat.

The Hornet is billed as the "military grade, but for personal use" combat ship. However to do any kind of hauling bigger than a gallon of rocky road, you have to give up one of your turrets. A lot of people are expecting the Hornets to win every Dogfight, but that's like counting on Cadillac to win every race.

You also have the Avenger, which is the police ship, and the M50 which is a an ultra light, but there aren't commercials out for them yet.

The best thing is, of course you aren't stuck with what you've pledged, you can always buy something else, later, when the game is live.

Rori's covered them well. I can dig through my hangar this weekend and dig up current hardpoint size info for the ships that show up in the holotable at present.

It's also worth pointing out that several ships are technically two-seaters, but will be eminently capable flown solo. So the Freelancer, Gladiator, and Cutlass may be worth tossing into that list, too, depending on how they're equipped.

The Avenger, as an example, doesn't look like much on paper if you go check out the Ship Specs page.. but its nose cannon is meant to be a sizable, fearsome thing. I don't remember if it's in the holotable yet, though.

Wow. Monday, for Veteran's Day, the F7A -- the military version of the Hornet -- will be available to pledge, with proceeds going to charity.

Didn't see that one coming.

You guys are acquiring these ships by paying real money, right? Like kickstarter funds?

If one doesn't participate in the pre-release fundraising, how does he acquire ships? Do you still buy them? Or is there an in-game way of getting them?

Every ship will be available for in game funds we are told. Not so sure about the military models, but everything that Kaffis has on his lists (pretty much covers all the ships) will be available for that in game currency.

Yup. Ships are all available in-game. Ranelagh's a little off -- the Scythe I have listed is a captured ship from a hostile alien race, so it won't be available at a ship dealer, but will be captureable in-game.

But the rest of the ships that have been offered as pledges, you can walk right up to a ship dealer and slap some in-universe money on the table and walk away with one.

The Military variant of the Hornet might be a second exception, I'm sure we'll find out more in the CommLink that's following today.

Details are out: CommLink

$20 upgrade package stacks with all F7C variants. Half the proceeds go to charity (Operation Supply Drop and Honor Flight Network, via Black Widow Company's pass-through Play to Give Back).

The upgrade pack doesn't change any specs. Instead, it reworks the fuselage (primarily around the main thruster's exhaust) to match the F7A's in-game model, which is somewhat different from the F7C's.

So there you have it. No quandaries about which you should have -- it's a matter of aesthetics and whether or not you'd like to contribute to the charities.

The understanding is you get play through the single player game and muster out with enough credits for the Aurora or Mustang, from there you can start putting your ship to work, either upgrading or looking to buy another ship. Alternatively you can skip the single player game and either work for other PCs or take out a loan for one of said starter ships.

And an alternate alternative is you can pledge for a ship prior to release and have it available to you at character creation. Once the game releases, though, that option goes away.

I'm upgrading my 300i to the heavier weapons one but I'd also like a craft for deep exploration and collecting what I may find out there. What do you recommend? It looks like Freelancer to me would be the right ship.

I really don't get where all these variations are coming from at the store I can't really see the mounts for engines or weapons or anything just a little description of each ship but I'd like more detail.

I picked up the cutlass for exploration and salvage. I am not a fan of the look of the freelancer. The cutlass looks to be very customizable with the number of slots it has but word is that it might be considered a glass cannon. It has good maneuverability with 16 maneuvering thrusters and one dev allegedly said it might be the best ship for navigating new jump points. It has less cargo room than the freelancer but may have more hard points.

The Roberts Space Industries website has a ships specs page that has all the engine size, empty ship mass, weapon hardpoint, etc. details. Keep in mind, they're subject to tweaking and whatnot between now and launch, but they do a good job of showing the mechanical impact the descriptions um.. describe. Each ship that has variants released also has a PDF "sales brochure" that outlines the differences between the variant models.

One of the Freelancer variants will probably be kitted out as an explorer of some type. The 315p has an efficient engine, tractor beam, and comes stock with a jump scanner, as well. So I kind of expect a Freelancer with similar options.

Here are the Official details

Quote:
As you know, November 26, 2013 marks the end of Lifetime Insurance (“LTI”) availability for Original and Veteran backers. We made lower-cost LTI packages available as a reward for the group of backers who made Star Citizen possible in the initial campaign, which culminated with the close of a grace period on November 26, 2012.

To celebrate our first year in operation, over the next week leading up to the 26th we will be offering each of the “limited edition” ships and packages once again for a limited time, so that anyone who would like to pick one up can do so. To give everyone a shot to catch the ship they’re interested in, we are going to announce the schedule in advance today. Ships and packages will be available for 24 hours (midnight to midnight PST.)

As a special thank you to everyone that has got us this far, including our growing contingent of New backers, Limited ships will include LTI for everyone! However they will only be available at the original prices for early backers (Original and Veteran) to keep in the spirit of our original promise to make sure that the earliest backers would have a benefit over later backers.

The Super Hornet is not being offered now, as it was available very recently.

Monday, November 18 – ORIGIN M50
Tuesday, November 19 – ORIGIN 350R & Lightspeed Package
Wednesday, November 20 – Drake Caterpillar
Thursday, November 21 – RSI Aurora LX
Friday, November 22 – Anvil Gladiator & Aegis Retaliator (running through the weekend)
Monday, November 25 – MISC Starfarer

On November 26th, we will start the second year off with a bang! Chris Roberts and the Star Citizen team will host a four-hour livestream starting at 11 AM PST which will feature the latest news and information, plus a chance to get your questions answered! We will also unveil the first details on the next assortment of ships, as we did at the first livestream! Like the original group, these ships will be offered for sale on special occasions… including some which will be purchasable for the first time on the 26th! There will also be a limited number of LTI Idris-P corvettes available for sale to all users, offered in four allotments throughout the day to allow Citizens around the world a chance at purchasing these rare ships.
