And it's in 3-D. I took the day off today to get the Oculus Rift DK2 hacked in on Star Citizen. Took some wrestling with my computer (apparently, a prior Windows 10 update broke its ability to recognize I had a DK2 attached, but then it was miraculously fixed when the big 10 update decided to patch in today after I had given up), an open source head tracking 3rd party hack, and custom .cfg mods, but once I got the Rift recognized again, it wasn't all that painful.

And the results left me floored. And not because I fell over, disoriented. It's utterly stunning to get 1:1 tracking while flying, and the sense of scale in the hangar is well worth the odd sensation of VR FPS movement decoupled from your own inner ear.

Crosshair accuracy isn't always spot-on because of some convergence issues brought about by the camera position hacks currently in use by the Rift community to get around the immobile helmet problem, but the freedom and sense of orientation provided in flight is... well worth dealing with bugs until/while the official DK2 support comes in (confirmed to be planned for a month or two out, as of this posting).

My biggest frustration, at this point, is how difficult it is to share such a VR experience remotely. I could make videos, but that's not going to communicate the experience (and it's going to suffer the barrel distortion the Rift uses to correct perspective through the lenses). So all I can do is try to describe it and gush about it. I imagine this is the same kind of hurdle HDTV and CD advertisers had to deal with to pitch their products to the public over inferior viewing and listening displays.

Wow. I just got done playing a couple waves of Swarm with my Super Hornet -- remember, the gimbals and class 4 turrets fire where your head is looking. That was... I'm going to have to learn to fly all over again. But in a good way. That's crazy awesome. Also, the sense of location and where you are in the environment is immensely improved with the ability to head-look immersively. I was buzzing asteroids at moderate to high speed with ease, because I could look up and see where they were above me. That was an incredible feeling.

I'm happy to show it off, sure. We'll have to work around my weekend schedule, it's chock full of roller derby this spring, but if your timing isn't too restrictive we could make it work.

This sounds amazing. I cannot wait for the consumer version to hit. It's time to lawnmower man this place up!

Nice. I have the super hornet but I don't have an right click weapon, thought that was supposed to be the turret. Does not it not come with stock guns?

Can't wait to get into VR myself but this week I'm buying a table so I don't have to sit at a kids one. Still waiting for the art I ordered to come in.

It should come stock with guns if it's a Super Hornet. Perhaps you removed them in the holotable at some point? Otherwise, maybe try deleting your User folder.

Yeah I thought it should to but I in weapons view I only see the lasers and missiles.

I have no idea how to use the holotable interface - it seems completely counter intuitive and I've not found a good instruction set to learn it rote so I don't mess with it.

I applies the upgrade to my hornet after doing a CC with my 325a. I've already deleted the user file because the missiles wouldn't work on it.

Oh, wait.. are you sure you're using the Super Hornet? I've still got a loaner normal Hornet (in addition to my Super Hornet) from some other ship that's not in AC yet. It's worth checking your hangar configuration in the website to make sure.

Yeah I realized what the issue was. I didn't see they changed the dropdown to list variants. I was on regular hornet not super and jeez is that a lot of damage.

Bro, don't you know that 3D is a fad?
