We should be getting a Squadron 42-centric Holiday Special Around the Verse tomorrow. Hand-in-hand with that is an IGN exclusive clip to show off the cinematics. For all of you (ahem, us) who felt like curmudgeon Luke was the best part of The Last Jedi, rejoice! We'll get an entire game of grouchy get-off-my-lawn Mark Hamill who doesn't have time to babysit fresh, eager pupils. CIG is launching a Squadron 42-specific newsletter this month, too, and you can sign up on the RSI site. It does concern me that IGN is referring to it as a "Star Citizen spin-off", which I'm assuming is their wording, not CIG's. But it really speaks to the way it's been treated these past couple years despite being the meat of the original pitch. Makes me grumpy and annoyed, but not really worried, I guess. As for the clip itself, I rather like it. It does reveal at least one angle for the game's voice acting dancing around your name, and while it's a little cheesy, it'll work for me. Everything else about the scene is really quite well done. |

The Holiday Special Squadron 42 Around the Verse. If you just want to see the Squadron 42 Vertical Slice: And, again, with Director's Commentary: That vertical slice is pretty awesome. Except the space combat is awful and boring. And the FPS looks way more involved than I was really interested in. But the mocap and acting! Pretty slick. And dat Idris. Mmm-MM! |
