I don't have a dog in this race. Still kinda blows my mind though.

6 years, $200M... and a tech demo.

Ah well, if it ever comes out, cool. But until then, I kinda feel like I wasted my $150.

No wonder guys who spend thousands of dollars on a game are called "whales" in the gaming industry. That's absurd. haha

Well, I think a kid who was born when this thing was announced would be in 2nd grade now?

I'm going to have to start adjusting for inflation when I talk about my $60 I threw in to this black hole.

That said, things are starting to get relatively playable if you want to log in and tool around.

They've laid out a roadmap to release Squadron 42 (the single player campaign) next year that looks pretty reasonable, now, and you can see that in the prioritization and refactoring they've been doing to some of the core gameplay loops like flight combat.

In fact, I'm really looking forward to the next patch (due in March) that's slated to introduce the new flight model to the public. The stuff they previewed back in October was already looking much more fun and aligned with the feel I think is necessary to support an engaging game, and I think the early missions they've been working on for Sq.42 are finally what made them realize the current stuff wasn't right.

Yeah they are actually making everything they talked about. It is amazing coming from a few people on kickstarter to such a build team.

I actually forgot the game existed for well over a year, not to mention the money I spent on it.

Might have to log in and check it out one of these days.

It's getting there. The flight model has gotten more stable. The dynamic mission system is getting to the point where there's some variety getting introduced with each patch. There's still some issues with PvP griefing in places, but that's gone down noticeably with each new sub-feature of the criminality/law and order systems.

Saw this quote today:

Quote:
in the amount of time this game has been in development SpaceX has prototyped built and launched an actual real life spacecraft carrying actually real people and will probably have launched their mars rocket before SC is finished.

I've been playing a bit lately. Still some bugs but a fleshed out solar system

I keep meaning to jump in and see what's new, but never quite make it. Hard to find time for any game, let alone this one. I think I am in for about $200. By the time it releases, that will be about the price of a standard AAA game.

They are due to reset the alpha in mid December I think. Good time to get in with everyone being back to zero. The new patch is adding a second solar system but even with just one there are like 200 named location and great variety in missions. Message me on here if you want to log in just to set contacts to play - I have a small circle of people I can get on now and then.
