Well, one could say it's not been "his game" for a very long time, since Gary was quite vocal about his dislike for 3rd edition, even saying that it wasn't "Dungeons and Dragons".

(And hell, he even made the statement that 2nd edition was a malicious revision and the reason that TSR died)

well since I still play a hybrid of 1e+: I still play his game LOL

Yeah, I on occasion break out OD&D just for the fun of doing the "old school" thing hehe, but TBH, I'm more of a fan of Gary's adventure/world creation than his old rule system. (His newer games, ie, Lejendary Adventure, I'm a bigger fan of, but haven't really had a chance to play it long term).

I mean, OD&D, characters started out so "weak", in part because the game practically expected you to play with 6-9 players, each with hired men-at-arms, etc. Just not so much my type of game, except as a bit of occasional fun.

But IMO once one realizes that Gary's D&D has been off the market for over 2 decades, and just treat the 3 editions since as a new game, I really just kinda starting judging each version on it's own merits, and each one has stuff I really like. (But meanwhile each edition I really house-rule the hell out of to make what we like out of it.)

Personally, I just really like 4e because it took the least amount of houseruling to make it what I wanted.

But, well, to quote Gary himself hehe -

"Edition wars are the height of foolishness. Who can argue with someone's personal taste in entertainment of any sort? Disputing which game or variation thereof is superior is much the same as arguing about what food tastes best or what color is the most pleasing, is it not?"

So M:TG (or Legends of Norrath) meets DnD.

I think if the campaign was built from the ground up, with the implementation of the cards in mind, and if all players involved knew and accepted it, it could be interesting.

Then again, if you wanted to play a fantasy-based game using cards, why not just play Magic: The Gathering.
