Well, despite the poll, I picked up Uncharted 2. It had the highest scores on GameRankings.com, as well as being new and in-demand if I don't care for it and want to trade it in.

Aside from simply enjoying gaming on it more, I'm afraid my 360 is not very healthy (when I play M:UA2 on it, the disc drive makes a disconcertingly loud whirring sound). The problem is alleviated by installing the game to the hard drive and thus almost entirely cutting the disc drive out of the equation, but I only have the original 20GB HDD, and thus only have space to really install the one game. I would love to get a new 360 Elite, with HDMI and a larger HDD, but that'll have to wait.

I started to get the poll winner, Fallout 3, or the much-mentioned Borderlands, but despite my curiosity, I have to face a very simple fact: I suck at FPS games, plain and simple. I'm slightly better at them on the computer, but they're just a genre (along with RTS) that I've never gotten the hang of; unlike RTS games, however, there are FPS games that I want to play.

Except Fallout isn't *really* an FPS.

You mean in the sense that you're not in first person view with some kind of gun in your hand 95% of the time?

Oh, wait.. Yeah you are.

Fallout 3 just isn't quite so much twitch-based as other FPS' given that usually most of your shooting is done through VATS and there are dice rolls to hit going on behind the scenes even though you've got the cross hairs set to give the guy a third nostril.

Your skill at FPS's has nothing to do with playing Fallout 3 thanks to V.A.T.S. Suck at aiming? No problem, pump the relevant weapon skill and hop into V.A.T.S. and let the game aim for you.

/\ That's what the videos of Fallout 3 seemed to indicate, but it's just sketchy enough that I think I'll give it a rental first, just to see how well the gameplay and I get along.

Well, considering you don't really finish games in the first place(by your own words), I'm surprised you don't rent more often. Seems more cost effective in the long run.

It really would be (the intimidating scope of Fallout 3 was admittedly another, though more slight, determinant), but A) the nearest physical rental place is about twenty miles away (and they're usually out of whatever new game I want to rent), B) online rental outlets like Gamefly don't offer immediate gratification, and C) I have a thing about collecting Blu-rays, DVDs, books, and video games. I don't really like using things I don't own, or at least to which I can't lay claim. It's weird.

Gamefly helped save me money with the 20-mile thing. Ultimately, though, I can sympathize with the hoarding instinct.

I also am slave to gamefly. The only thing I hate about them is that they never seem to have new games in within 2 months of release.

I see by your signature that you did eventually do what the intent of your poll was: buy the game the majority recommended.

So? What do you think?

Too early. He's really only done the intro.
