I have an Android phone and an iPad, so why would I ever want one of these? You can't even browse the Internet on a 3DS, other issues aside. It looks like it would be a cool thing to have in 2005.

As a pre-Lite DS owner, I'm having a hard time seeing what makes this more egregious an iteration. I didn't have the option of buying a replacement, battery powered screen upgrade. An add-on pad exists, at least, even if you may not prefer it to the speculated native hardware.

Sounds like a bad idea. They should at least offer it for free to anyone that bought a 3DS a month or so before the price drop. This means I will probaly wait longer for a new handheld as they will likely integrate this feature in a new version.

There's a difference in stepping up hardware production quality and changing the very gameplay mechanics.

I'd wager that the 3DS will see a hardware revision soon that incorporates the second pad.

Too bad, because I'm over Nintendo.

Yes, but they control the Pokemons. Are you going to deprive Phe of her Pokemons?

That's... kinda like suggesting you should have gotten a free N64 because the Virtual Boy tanked.

Not really...or at all. And regardless, I'm not suggesting that current 3DS owners are owed anything (except maybe an apology), even though the article seems to think so. I'm just saying I'm not about to spend one more penny on Nintendo's bullshit.

@Kaffis: Phe can (and probably will), if she likes. She has her own paycheck. But I'm done with Nintendo's crap.

Ah, I see. I guess I was taking that as a "As for me and my household..." kind of thing. And Coro, I think it's more like suggesting that N64 owners were disserviced because Nintendo released a memory expansion module.

'Skeee, that's much more reasonable (being done with Nintendo's crap) than the article's tone and insinuations.

Yeah, I pretty much said F*** you, Nintendo when the 3DS came out. Now they're just scrambling because it sucks.

They should just release the "portable SNES" (some would argue that's what they did) and sell our childhood back to us the way they've been doing for years.

Aside from already enjoying my DSlite XL and thinking 3D is dumb, I knew better to get a 3DS right away just because they upgraded the DS 3 times. Why wouldn't I wait? I knew they'd release better versions.

It's also worth noting that at ~$19 this is cheaper than a Wii Motion plus and you don't need four of them.

That's what it's really most like only it was released closer to the release of the console. Not a lot of games use the Wii Motion plus either.

However I don't think it effects 3DS sales any more than the lack of games for the system does.

For all the talk of Nintendo rushing stuff out half-assed, if they hadn't put it out we wouldn't have it. Sony and Microsoft never would've developed motion controls if it weren't for the popularity of the Wii. In the intervening time, they've figured out how to refine the Wii's motion sensing. That's just how technology works. The motion controls weren't crappy five years ago when it first came out.

I got my hands on a 3DS in a store and played through some demo games. It's fantastic. It reminded me of when I went and saw the last Harry Potter movie, which is the only time I ever saw a movie in 3D. It looked really good. I don't mean the **** jumping out at you, because that's just cheap thrills. I mean little stuff, like the added depth to the beach at the beginning of the movie. I don't know that it was worth the extra couple of dollars, but it looked fantastic. The 3DS did the same thing, without the stupid goggles. That's a breakthrough that can make the 3D technology worth something.

Yes Nintendo's implementation can suck at times, but yes they always manage to shift the conversation and have the competition chasing them.

It's this kind of stuff that makes me wonder if I should go pre-order skyward sword or wait for it to actually come out. since they never release them on time.

Totally expected this. Glad I waited. Not that there have been any 3DS games that have jumped out and screamed at me to get them. But I did read a new Fire Emblem game was announced. I'm pretty sure it was for the 3DS, too. Hope it comes out here.
