It got a terrible review by Ars. This is too bad, I've been watching this game for a while and was hoping it'd turn out good.

The reviews are pretty split on this one.

83 on metacritic? Doesn't look much like a split to me.

The big names generally gave it above 80 - 85.

Yeah but they consider anything 71%+ to be "good". Look at the reviews, two of them are 100's and two of them are 50's. I'm weary of any game that someone is willing to give a failing score to. Not to mention probably 80% of those reviews are from places I've never heard of before, and all the "big boys" are grading Rage pretty low.

I usually lean towards agreeing with the Joystiq reviewers for the most part.

You mean John "Story's not important" Carmack made a video game that uses archaic mechanics and technology and doesn't use any of the advancements in the medium as art or entertainment at all?

Color me shocked.

John Carmack and id don't make video games. They make tech demos people are stupid enough to buy.

So I'm about an hour and a half in, and I have to say, so far this game is pretty awesome. The enemies animate very fluidly, react well to being shot (stumbling, etc) and run up and leap off walls while rushing you. The vehicles (so far I've driven a 4-wheeler and a buggy) are fun. The graphics are absolutely astounding (I'm playing the 360 version), I would love to see this game on a brand new top of the line video card, but even on the 360 it's a beautiful game. I've been enjoying the vehicle combat/races, and this game is FAST. It's so rare for a game to stick to the 60FPS on a console, and this thing just feels fluid, your character moves quick, and everything just seems smooth (I have yet to encounter any slowdown). Definitely feels larger and more fleshed out than something like DOOM3 (glorified techdemo). If you're interested, I would check it out, at least a rental. I've been having a great time so far.

(Also, watching a guy reach his hands up in an attempt to grab where his head used to be is entertaining every time.)

Wait, wasn't Rage a card game based off of Werewolf that flopped in the mid 90s?

It looks like it's been a couple card games:

White Wolf Version : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_(collectible_card_game)
Fundex Games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_(card_game)

None of them are related to the id game though.

The important question is, do both games contain mountains?

P.S. they're not kidding about the checkpoints being retarded in this game. Save yourself, or you're basically starting the dungeon over again.

Rage cards were voted best tasting CCG by Scry due to their mintyness.
