I liked Van, but my PC chugged along at the time and I had no one to play with. That's really the hardest part. If I tried again its unlikely I'd find folks to play with.

The secondary "defensive" target was a major innovation, on par with seeing your target's target. (Not sure who did that first - my first experience with it was the "health of target's target" raid leader ability in EQ). Being able to keep a monster targeted while you cast heals and buffs on party members was fantastic. It gave healers something to do besides heal people, and made their play experience more exciting.

Good one, forgot about that.

And is superior to the "cast through" smart targetting system where you target your target's target if the spell's hostile/friendly status doesn't match up with your target, because it allowed for very neat defensive tank mechanics, too.

Yeah the defensive target thing was pretty useful. I had forgotten about that.

I liked the reactive maneuvers that activated at random intervals. They had nice animations, and every so often you'd get an incredible amount of damage from them.

Most (if not all) combat abilities had a parameter attached to them that would give the target a vulnerability to a different set of combat abilities (usually ones that other classes had). The extra damage was a nice perk, and encouraged varying your skill usage depending on who you were grouped with and what they were doing.

Different combinations of skills would activate short duration buffs, debuffs, DoTs, and other neat stuff.

Me too. I had revived my career once or twice but there just was no way to really get into it and EQ2 (or for that matter, EQ) always dragged me back. Now my EQ2 guild is pretty much gone though, and that game got rather silly ever since Sentinels Fate came out, so maybe I'll take a look.

I logged into VG last night for about 20 minutes.

My characters are still in <Ategenos>.

I last played in 2007. Since then, I have apparently completely forgotten almost everything about actual game play. I managed to geton my horse and run around a bit. I had no idea where I was, and there was mean looking stuff all around...

I Origin'd back to my bind, but apparently I was bound... waaaaayyy over there... no idea where 'home' is, or how to get back to a city.

I may have to make a new character to re-familiarize myself with the game again.

I was surprised to see about 30 people on the server though.. most level 55 (no idea what max is).
