I have to vent about this. Tera is different than any mmo I've ever played: no tab targeting. So if you want to hit / buff something you have to put your reticle on the target. There is also active blocking / dodging depending on your class. It seems to have anime type character models.

Having rolled a couple of female characters on SWTOR I thought I would roll a female mystic (cloth wearing healer/utility class) and a female beserker (DPS wielding a massive two handed axe).

First, I wisely chose to stay away from the Elin race which is a race of fantasy fairies that all look like twelve year old girls. In my opinion, if you're male over the age of 10 just say NO! Enough said on that subject.

I rolled a high elf mystic. On noob island she was wearing a dress and high heeled boots with a stat stick weapon. Ok, I can live with this since it's better than your standard magic user's robe (tm). I graduate from noob island (finishing the quest line puts you at around level 12) and get my quest reward stat stick, armor, and horse. Put on the armor and WTF, it's a pink night gown. To add insult to injury the high elf female rides side saddle. Delete!

Back to my level 6 popo (popori race) rocky raccoon (choose to make him look like a raccoon as opposed to a dog, cat, rabbit etc.) mystic. I hear them referred to in that bastion of civilization called general chat on noob island as pedo bears. For the sake of my sanity I inquire no further.

On to my human female zerker. She's running around with this ginormous axe and a chainmail dress with sensible boots. Fits my concept of Red Sonja. Upon graduating from noob island I get my quest reward 2h axe, armor, and horse. WTF, the armor is now a chainmail mini skirt with some sort of puffy blue blouse. What's worse is the neckline plunges to the navel. And she rides side saddle. The axe is cool looking but that alone can't stop the inevitable delete!

Reroll to a human male zerker.

Yes, this is my first time with a Korean game so it was shocking to say the least. I wanted more utilitarian outfits.

That said, I did play back when they had the open beta or whatever. I fiddled around for a little bit, went "wow, it's surprising how much they give you right off the bat.." and then realized they run the tutorial at level 20 before plonking you back to level 1 to start the real game.

Which is kind of weird.

I thought it was an interesting notion, but the UI seemed awkward in its juggling mouselook-crosshairs and lots of click to interact type menu elements.

I figure I may pick it up and try the free month a little bit down the road and see if they've done anything to address the UI. I can tell I definitely won't be playing it for the story or the quests, though. Yikes.

Bunch of guys I was working with talked me into giving it a try during their open beta weekend, and I really wasn't impressed. It struck me as a game specifically designed to make twitchers feel rewarded for their l337 skillz. Also, all their "no tab targeting" hype struck me as coming from a desperate need to find some way in which to set *this* game apart from every other game, and then dump on the competition for it. To be fair, GW2 kinda did that with their "no holy trinity" thing, but I find myself more in agreement with their stance than with Tera's.

I suck at twitch gaming - ask my friends on xbox live. That being said, so far I like the starting experiences and the different play style. I don't plan on pvping (see the beginning of this post).

My zerker is only level 14 but the class is one of the slower play styles and there still is some running for positioning i.e. pulling a group and then running backwards a bit to line them up since the axe blocks damage in a frontal cone. Running around a mob to avoid the big strike and whack it in the back with the big axe. I'm also working on a slayer in noob island to see how different it is from the zerker. The slayer is also two handed as well, sword this time, but only leather armor as opposed to the plate of a zerker, and a dodge on a 5 sec cool down instead of a block. The animations are faster and no real charge up of skills like a zerker and more knockdowns. From what I've seen and read it is an easier class than the zerker because of those issues but does require more movement.

My mystic is just a caster, only level 12 so not much experience there at the moment.

Anyway I'm having fun which is the point of gaming for me. Once it becomes a grind or a "job" then it's time to move on as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, I'm quoting myself. I'm still playing and having loads of fun with the instance matching in the dungeons. I've tanked one dungeon as well as deeped them. Tanking is fun. Soloing as a tank, not as much fun. Am going to work on both healers to heal the first dungeon to see if I like it. It's also nice that the main stories give you sufficient quest rewards that you have a decent outfit as you level.
