Why do you make it so hard to get into your site?

I had to go through their authenticator removal process today because of phone changes and stuff. This was not even to play WoW.. this was to download WC3 + exp and D2 + exp without the CDs...

Because you access their website with the same credentials you use to login to their games, the security needs to be the same.

I know, surprisingly... it was not as difficult as I expected. Not too happy about needing to send them a copy of my ID though, but I suppose it works...

Blizzard account theft was huge business. High reward for practically zero risk. And it wasn't limited to just keyloggers. They had folks researching things like what high school you went to and other things that were likely answers to your secret question just so they could easily get into the aforementioned website and change passwords. My coworker (our head engineer and programmer) had the the highschool thing done to him to get his account hacked.

Sending a copy of your ID seems like a pretty good trade-off if you don't have access to your authenticator, if you ask me.

I just had to swap phones and forgot about the whole authenticator thing. I went to Battle.net when I saw this thread and tried to log in...it warned me that I would have to go through a very rigorous process to reclaim the account without access to the authenticator. I forged ahead. It said "by the way, you're about to get a text with a code to enter." Got it, entered it...and that was it! "Authenticator removed."
