In case the image isn't loading fully so here is a link to a Nester and Son comic commemorating the final issue of Nintendo Power
I know NP has been largely irrelevant for the last decade or so, but the nostalgia in this comic is overwhelming. Also the concept that Nester being old enough to have children is equally sad.

Ah yes, I remember the very first issue. Before the internet when you needed information or tips on games, all you had was a friend who heard from a friend who heard from a friend who heard from another guy...* and Nintendo Power. It was our first periodical and it was specifically JUST FOR US.

I, too, haven't looked at an issue since 1987 or so but the nostalgia is strong with this one. An end of an era is still an end of an era.

Fare thee well, Nintendo Power.

* - Seriously, how in the hell did we learn about the "Konami code" and "Justin Bailey"? I knew about that stuff before Nintendo Power existed, and I can't even begin to trace it's originating point.

Numbuk, there used to be call-in hint lines, too.

I remember the first NES we bought came with a free copy of issue #1 of Nintendo Power. Good times.

They also made the last cover an homage to the first issue:

Read that magazine for years, probably still have boxes full of it somewhere. Didn't even know it was still going until I heard about the last issue. That comic, right in the feels.

Oh, I am acutely aware. My friend I resorted to it to find a dungeon entrance in Zelda 2. But, even so, it was expensive and did you know of anyone (other than me) that used it? I didn't. And they typically helped with very specific in-game problems.

I am just amazed at the purple monkey dishwasher accuracy of how far those codes traveled by word of mouth.

Yeah, but a lot of them charged for the call and it wasn't a good idea for Mom to see that on the phone bill.

The one in Washington was free but not toll free (you had to pay the LD charges) I called a few times but that was still in the NP era.

I still have a large box of many old issues of NP going all the way back to the very first issues. They aren't in the greatest shape, but growing up, moving out, moving again and again, and then finally getting married never saw me get rid of them. Maybe I'll go through them soon for a blast of nostalgia.

Thanks NP for many years of fun an entertainment.
