Uinan: Protoss has a couple of cheesy strategies late-game, from my beta experience, and is the most viable race to mass 1 or 2 units with. They're also relatively quick to change tacks (though, not quite as quick as Zerg) with since they have a lot of diversity at their two major production buildings.

It requires a close eye, scouting-wise, and a lot of early pressure to keep them from running away with the game unexpectedly. And both of those are skills that new players aren't good at out of the gate, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if a lot of broadly experienced beta vets are favoring 'Toss here near launch.

All three races are very solid. Protoss does appear to be very popular, though. The key to the Terran vs Protoss encounter right now, is Ghosts. Ghosts really do well against Toss with their EMP blast. Drains all power(mana) from casters and does 100 dmg to shields in a fairly large radius, which can really reduce the effectiveness of most Toss armies. You don't need a lot, just 3 or 4 ghosts can work really well. Marines, Marauders, and Medivacs, backed up by Siege Tanks and a few ghosts can do wonders. Keep your Ghosts on an easy to reach hotkey, and hit 'E' for your EMP blast ASAP when you see their army.

If you see them going for Colossus, pump out Vikings, along with your Infantry (Marines/Marauders). Colossus units can't attack air units, but they are so big, that air-to-air units CAN attack them. And Vikings have like 9 range on their air attack. So ghosts to EMP the Colossus' shields, then Vikings to clean up, while your infantry soaks up the dmg.

EDIT: Forgot to mention this. If you do see them going for Colossus, make sure you research the Marine Combat shield upgrade. That upgrade alone will keep a marine from dying to a Colossus in one hit, and makes a huge difference.

Though, just reading the replies, I really have so much left to learn. LOL

Also, if you see Void Rays, crank out as many Vikings as you can, and pray. The key is to nail the Void Rays before they can attack a building. If you let them kill a couple buildings, they'll get their weapon charged up and just melt anything and everything you throw at them. At which point you're better off deleting units in a huge radius to starve them of targets to keep the weapon charged.

I hate Void Rays.

Thanks for the tips Kaffis.

They don't all make sense at the moment, but I'll be referring back to them as I continue to progress. I appreciate the help.

One guy has no air units left, no command center, no SCVs, and is 1 gas short of making a Viking. The other guy has a command center and barracks, which he lifted off and and tucked in a corner out of range of ground units.

Enter multi-hour stalemate.

edit: 7 hours later b.net reset and the game was canceled.

I almost beat the 3rd level on Lost Viking. My hand was getting tired of tapping the space bar and I got careless with my bobbin' and weavin' on the boss. I had him down to under 10% but I was just getting tired.

The amusing part? The Blizz downloader is a torrent-based deal because they realized back when they were first doing WoW that they could offload their bandwidth costs onto their users with no complaints or reduction in subscription prices. =P

Seems like a double edged sword.. They both use the same tech, but pirate communities are huge and have seedboxes, so people go to website torrent trackers instead of the official one, so that just compounds it.

Ah yeah haven't gotten that one yet. Sounds tough tho.

I kinda like those fast flying things you get in the mission where:
Spoiler:
you have to extract the sacred gas from the Protoss jungle world -- Welcome to the Jungle I think it's called.

I could have swore you got Goliaths on that level, not Vikings.

You get goliaths in the level where you get the purple gas. You get Vikings in the missions where you save or purify the colony.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Because I remember having Vikings for Tosh's first level since I kinda skipped over his levels at first because reapers are incredibly lame in the campaign mode.

Ah that's right, I was thinking the:
Spoiler:
Great Train Robbery level where you get the extra ones-- which was hella cool IMO

And yeah I'm kinda disappointed in the reapers.

Reapers are great economy harassers in multiplayer. But I'm fairly certain the enemy forces in the campaign mode have unlimited resources, so the reaper's value is no where near as high as it is for multiplayer. They do get bonus damage vs light, but their short range and lack of air attack makes them not as good.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with reapers. I get that they have a lot of utility in the cliff-hopping, but I would have liked it if they were an effective combat unit, as well. As it stands, without intense micromanagement, the only things they're really suited to killing are harvesters.

Also, I'm disappointed. I was forced to register sooner than I had planned in order to get tech support for an apparently defective (missing files) Collector's flash drive.

I decided to create a new Battle.net account with completely falsified information instead to spite them and protect my Real ID data by allowing the one with legit info to squander in obscurity, 'cause all it's attached to are my Diablo I and II codes, which I don't really need.

OMFG -- F this
Spoiler:
New Haven mission where you have to take down the purifier -- way too much crap happening at once, and the Protoss are over-powered as hell.

hahahahaha. Marines(with medics, obviously) and vikings work well on that level. Sprinkle in some marauders for the ground units you'll be facing. If you haven't, upgrade stimpack for your marines.

Heh yeah I finally got it.

Spoiler:
I prioritized building up Vikings and some of the other ground forces you mentioned, and only going on the offensive when the attack fleets were heading toward colonies, hitting the power generators in-between. Left some medics and ground infantry at my base to kill the few little squads that took pot shots at me.

And :( at the doc leaving :(

My brother and I played some co-op against medium AIs today for a couple of hours. We never even come close to losing, but it is amazingly fun for some reason. We knocked out a bunch of achievements. Good times were had.

So I popped Mini Thor in Halls of Reflection yesterday. Someone else had the little Space Marine pet from wherever that came from. It was awesome. At the end of the instance where Arthas has you cornered, someone made one of the usual comments about "OH NOEZ A DEAD END!"

Me: "I'm not worried! We have a robot and a space marine to hold him off!"

Much lolz ensued.
