Though, I hope I find some other mage so I can drop Morrigan, who's bound to hate my good nature in short order because this is an RPG with sidequests and I, gasp, occasionally agree to help out of the goodness of my heart.

I can never avoid spoilers.

There is another mage who can eventually join you, but i don't need more mages. :)

So far, Leliana and Alistair are adorable. The mutt is not bad. Morrigan needs to die in a fire.

But that would probably just make her angry.

(I do like her mother, Captain Janeway.)

Notes on characters, copied from another board:

My take on some of the party members:

Dear Zevran, my tent, 30 mins, bring Leilana with you.

Dear Leilana, my tent, 30 mins, bring Zevran with you.

Dear Alistair, everyone does love mocking you which makes for fun banter, thank goodness you're a decent tank.

Dear Wynne, you really are... made of win I mean.

Dear Shale, it likes you. Lets stomp some pigeons.

Dear Sten, more of a golem than Shale. Seeing as I never let you out of camp except to give you gifts and see if you're capable of human speech. Yeah, I just want your quest.

and finally, the one I most love/hate

Dear Morrigan,
I love that you can turn into a bear. I also understand that thanks to your upbringing you also have the social graces of one. However someone capable of seeing through all manner of trickery and someone who has the ability to cast highly advanced spells should have enough intelligence to realize one thing: Namely that when attempting to recruit allies to fight a war that cannot possibly be won on your own, objecting to every single attempt to help those potential allies - help which would motivating them to join our cause - is not just counter productive but REALLY ****ING STUPID!! I seriously wish I could have returned to your mom and went "I'd like to make a return" when you do that dumbass **** because those times I'd rather have a Flemeth than a Morrigan, other than that you're awesome.

Developer David Gaider says that he based Alistair's personality on a combination of Malcolm Reynolds and Xander Harris.

Alistair is awesome. He's probably my favorite male npc follower in any game since Minsc.

He amuses me so much that I left him in my part even though my character is a sword and board tank :)

Yeah. While Bioware games get points for having good and evil options faithfully offered throughout; the binary nature of them all is really getting tired. It's appropriate enough to forgive in the KotOR context, but I'd like to see a lot better range of grey, and better companion character interactions with them, as well.

I hope this aspect improves, particularly for non-Force using characters, in SW:TOR, particularly since it's touted as being heavily narrative.

In such a scenario, I'd simply chalk up the 3 or 4 points of sword and board he starts with as an acceptable loss, and start him in on two-hander just to keep him around. Because, yes, he's that fun.

Fortunately, I knew before going into the game that I'd want to play my warrior character (when I get around to it) as a two-hander, so I don't have to resort to such kludges to avoid redundancy.

That's what I did, although a warrior with the three shield skills maxed can pump out pretty good damage.

I guess I should point out that my earlier comment about moral ambiguity has to do with how the game ends and the ultimate consequences of your decisions more than anything else. Bioware wields a certain cudgel quite mightily.

Ok, setting up for my second play through, I went through first Sword and Board, Berserker and Champion. I'd like to go Dual Wield this time, should i go warrior or Rogue? (I'd maybe like to try Templar since mage fights were tough the first go round).

I would recommend warrior if you actually want to use your active dual wield talents. I played a dual wield rogue(well, every rogue is going to dual wield or archery) and I found that I almost never used the dual wield talents. There were some rare occasions I had an enemy actually facing me, but 95% of the time, I was behind them backstabbing. And you can't backstab with any of the active dual wield talents. The passive ones are very nice(save for the fourth in the first line that allows you to use two full size weapons...though, this is all coming from the PC point of view where daggers aren't broken with the unofficial(official) dagger and bow hotfix. The console versions, daggers use 100% str for damage instead of a split between Str and Dex, though if you take Leathality, it will use cunning instead of str for damage and as a rogue, you should have incredibly high cunning, but you'll still need the dex/str for attack)

The middle line of dual wield talents doesn't impress me that much, but the third seems alright. My rogue gets some use out of the first skill since it can hit multiple enemies, and the last skill (Whirlwind) seems to be darn useful. The third one might be a bit too draining but otherwise looks good... haven't passed judgment yet til I get it.

In any case this is all just based on my own experience. I've done next to no research for the game. It's fun not to have everything mapped out and thoroughly tested for you, for a change. :p My rogue is pretty darn badass, however, so I don't think I'm all that far off where I should be.

Thinking of taking him Duelist. Already have a Bard and Assassin in my party, though I can't say I actually use the Assassin that much. Dude seems to hit on me too much. :(

My current party is my Warden (Elf Mage), Alistair, Leliana (solely for her lockpicking prowess), and Shale. I'd prefer to bring Morrigan in to replace Leliana, but Leliana has that lockpick thing going for her, and I'm already a Mage...

Shale is indeed awesome. For added fun, add Morrigan and her Cone of Cold (or Blizzard later on) spell. Then have Shale "Hurl Boulder" at the frozen targets and watch them shatter!

Good times.

Morrigan is a *****. Wynne is a better mage than she is because she doesn't have the worst specialization in the entire game.

Where does Shale come from? I'm pretty deep into the game and I've never seen this person (that I can remember).

Shale is the DLC/CE content character.

If you got the game new(as in, you didn't purchase a used copy) it comes with the Stone Prisoner DLC for free. This includes Shale and two quests(one of which is Shale's personal quest). If you didn't buy the game new, you can download it for $15.

Just got this for birthday. Fun so far.

My biggest gripe (and it is a huge, massive, and very VALID one): Dexterity does not do jack for daggers and bows, in terms of damage. Oh, the in-game text says it does. The booklet says it does. But dex does not affect damage for daggers & bows in any way shape or form. This is a bug. It's been acknowledged. It has not been fixed, and who knows when it will be (IF it even will be... they claim it would take re-balancing the whole game to fix). This little tidbit came to light only after I spent focusing on dex for a dagger rogue many hours into the game.

Did they even HAVE a few things I like to call "beta testers?" Or are they just too damn lazy to fix it, figuring that a bug like this isn't worth the effort?

Since, even with the Dexterity Hotfix that Bioware's already made public, Dexterity underperforms Cunning in terms of accuracy and damage, it probably doesn't matter.

Yeah, but only if you let it. I get deep into it for WoW, but ignore it entirely for Dragon Age, and it's worked out so far. :)

So as I build my Dual Wield rogue on the xbox, should I go all out Cunning and only enough Dex to access the talents I want? Does Lethality work on the Xbox? And would it be better to run two daggers, or something larger with a dagger off-hand?

Lethality works on the 360.
