Yea, cunning based archers are pretty good in DA:O. Unfortunately, thanks to the Accuracy talent, Dex archers are much better in Awakening. Still, I had a lot of fun on my archer in both DA:O and Awakening. Probably gonna play an archer my first time through DA2, also.
BTW, here's a video of a party of archers, with auto-crit (100% crit chance), against Flemeth on Nightmare difficulty. Pretty insane, but I think he used a couple of exploits to do it.
You can follow the link to the Youtube site to see a description of some of the stuff he uses for that setup.

Well, I was prepared to say I was pleased with Awakenings. Then my second play-through I encountered 2, full-on, game-breaking bugs.
I entered the Architect's lair in the Silverite Mines. All went fine until one character's test subject didn't spawn so I couldn't get back all my gear. I had to re-do 3 hours of work, strip my characters down, butt-naked, and make it to the box near the end where you get your inventory items back. Okay, so I got around that problem. But that wasn't the worst.
I decided to bail on Amaranthine and defend my Keep. I reached a point where I could not continue the quest any further and had to use console commands to jump the plot because the game wouldn't progress. So I missed the boss fights in there (and any loot I'm guessing). Somewhere along the way the Senechal dies I guess, but I never saw it. But for some reason he stands in the throne room shouting at dark spawn. I headed to the Mother's lair and I still have the army-picker for the Keep battle still showing up.
This expansion was not worth the $15 I paid for it. So frustrating. At least in Origins when I hit quest bugs, they were small quests. Awakenings has done nothing but give me the shaft. These problems have apparently survived 2 patches from what I see on the forums. Apparently fixing bugs isn't profitable. They just crank out DLC and fix stupid bugs with crossgbows, which nobody uses anyway.
I'm glad I haven't pre-ordered DA2. This experience has soured me. If DA2 doesn't support mods, I'll just be watching the game on YouTube instead of giving them my money. Or perhaps I'll just grab an .iso to stick it back to them. **sigh**
