I DPS'd my way to inferno with no problem as a barb. I quickly learned that I had to change my spec and gear for tanking in inferno. I picked up a cheap set of starter gear (5k or less,) and that got me through act 1. Act 2 is hard. I need to farm and get better gear.

Resist All > Vitality > +Armor > Strength > Physical Resist seems to be the way to go so far, but I really need to find a good weapon with Life on Hit and Attack Speed %.

My farming route for Act 1:

Start "The Fallen Angel" quest, second checkpoint "The Cursed Hold"
• Leoric's Manor - run through to the courtyard. Guaranteed at least one, but up to 3 elites/champs
• Festering Woods - two small dungeons with 2 elites, usually 3+ elites in surrounding area
• Cemetery of the Forsaken - One possible elite/champ in graveyard, three dungeons with 1 each
• Northern Highlands - Looking for a dungeon called the Watchtower. Super small, packed with elites
• Halls of Agony lvl 2 - Run the rest of the Warden -> Butcher path from here

Or you could checkpoint exploit and farm Warrior's Rest every 40 seconds with MF gear
Spoiler:

I prefer doing the full run, because it's more entertaining and I like having 5 NV and being guaranteed a rare each kill. However, the Warrior's Rest farm can yield a near equal amount of rares if you get a decent MF set, and it lets you turn off your brain. Definitely easier on the repair bills, too.

Found a calculator for comparing point-by-point stats and which one your character would benefit most from. You can edit in your own values and the page will update automatically. Here's mine (apparently I fail): Lenas @ DiabloDPS

RE: Legendary and Set items

Are they dropped or crafted? If dropped, at which difficulty levels? If crafted, are there plans for them (Random drops for plans?)

I am toughing it through Act II nightmare currently. Had to go back into Act I to farm for some better gear (Thank you Lenas). I haven't seen anything legendary or set as yet.

Also will I not see a Tome of Jewelcrafting anytime soon in Nightmare? Jeweler needs this for next level up. I assume as you get to the higher difficulty levels, the old items for crafting become obsolete (Unless sharing with your own lower level characters).

Loving every minute of this game that I am able to squeeze in.

Legendary items (in which set items are included) drop anywhere, any time, though very rarely. I've only seen one in my 120+ hours of gameplay and that was on normal difficulty in the early cathedral levels; a level 8 bracer. Some legendary items can be crafted, but plans to create them only drop in Inferno, and are equally rare.

The only qualifiers for what you can get and when is gear level. Normal mode drops up to [item] level 29 I believe in Acts 3-4, Nightmare up to 45(?), Hell up to 59, Inferno 52-63.

Tomes of Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing only drop in Hell difficulty. Inferno difficulty will net you Tomes of Secrets, used for the final levels of both crafters and also used in some recipes.

My monk is on Act 3 NM, add me if you wanna play some, Lenas#1777.

Yes. Each difficulty has its own tier of jewel and smith crafting materials.

Look for an add request from LtSmash#1838.

Anyone else, please feel free to add me. I haven't yet tried teaming up with anyone.

Accepted your request Foamy. I'll most likely be playing tonight, Thursday night and most of the day Friday.

Side note - Warrior's Rest farming is very easy to pull off at work :D

So I plugged in the stats for a belt I found, and was amazed by the prices I saw.

290 Armor
148 Dex
135 Vit
60 Resist All
20 % Magic Find

The buyouts ranged from 80,000,000 to 2,000,000,000 (averaging around 250mil.) Those didn't have Magic Find, either. I've been scanning the AH for a few days, and one popped up for 30mil, which either sold or was deleted quickly. I think I may be sitting on a goldmine.

20% MF is maximum for any slot other than amulet so that's HUUUUUGE. Plus the 60 all res and >120 main stats?

I'm jelly.

You should list it on the RMAH for $200.

I was thinking about that. Btw, how did you link that item before? Was that a cropped screencap or is there another way to do it?

Warrior's Rest farming coming to an end soon...

Blizzard wrote:
In the near future, we'll be re-enabling the limit on how many games a player can create within a certain amount of time. We've further tuned and tested the conditions that trigger this limit to ensure, as much as possible, that it only affects those abusing the Diablo III game service in a way that violates the Terms of Use – for example, by using bots that create games in rapid succession.

The use of bots not only impacts the stability of the game service, but it also has an impact on the player-driven economy. While we regularly take action against accounts for the use of unauthorized third-party programs and bots, this additional measure will help us further preserve and protect the integrity of the game and economy in between ban waves.

Once this change goes live, we're looking for your feedback to help ensure that the limit is working as intended. If you encounter the "Input limit reached" message and feel you should not have, please let us know how many games you were creating and why. This information will help us ensure the limit minimally impacts legitimate players while still protecting the game against bots.

We'll continue to tweak the game limit as necessary, as well as continue to go after the few cheaters and botters that are out there in other ways. Our goal is to help ensure that Diablo III continues to be a fun gaming environment for all of our players, and we're looking forward to hearing your feedback on this change once it goes live.

We will update this post and unlock the thread once game limits are re-enabled.

I'll never understand the wants or needs of players that exploit to SUCH an extreme level that measures such as these are needed.

Like I said in my gaming rant, just play the game...enjoy it.

I know of people who spend a large chunk of their time in MMO's on the trade network 'buying low and selling high'...

I dont understand it myself. It's not what I think of as fun, but, to each his own.

I'm sure, as the statement eluded to, some of them are farming using bots, probably to make money in the RMAH.

Bots in Diablo 3 are **** rampant and it's disgusting. Endless gold farming of Sarkoth in act 1 to earn 3-400k an hour and it's not going to stop. These bots pumping billions into the economy every day are the reason it's so shitty right now.

Ok, someone explain to me how a "bot" works in a game context such as this.

I always took it at face value that a bot somehow allows a player to automate the gaming experience to reap the benefits of playing (gold/loot) without actually playing, but I never really understood how it actually works.

There are multiple versions of Diablo 3 bots. Some of them use a free program called AutoIt, which simulates mouse clicks and you can write scripts for. Some of them are paid, including some bots called Demonbuddy and Hellbuddy I think. These are more complicated programs that also run off scripts but are capable of more logical tasks like determining what to pick up, etc. They're all basically set-it-and-forget-it programs. You can run multiple instances of each on a single computer, like one person playing four+ characters. That's 1.2M/hr per botter entering the economy. Multiply that by 24 hours a day and thousands of people botting.

People botting Sarkoth since the game came out has been a constant and is ruining the game economy more every day. The amount of inflation that has already come to pass is insane.

For any game, there are basically two types of bots.

Automated keystroke/mouse 'macro', and memory injecting game hacks.

keystroke macros are fairly limited in that they can't deal with randomness in any way. It's basically a script or macro that performs exactly the same keystrokes/mouse movements regardless of whats going on. Their functionality is limited, but can be useful. I know of some people using them to run crew skills in SWTOR for example.

Memory hacks are a completely different deal. They can be simple or complex, and can be completely game breaking (speed hacks in PvP for example).

I have never played D3, but I imagine the bot farmers are probably using a combination of the two to move around in an isolated area repeatedly killing and looting the same mobs over and over.

This happens in almost every online game.

AutoIt is an automated keystroke / mouse macro program, the -Buddy bots are injector type programs. The former loses most of its usefulness past Sarkoth farming. The latter are becoming more powerful by the day, and there are already elite mob farming scripts becoming available.

Blizzard doesn't give a **** because they get a cut of all the proceeds the botters make off of the RMAH. Pretty nice racket they've got going on.

1.2M/hr x 24 =
28.8M @ $1.50/M =
$19.20 per day

3 days of botting without getting caught to pay for a copy of the game, anything past that is profit. Considering people get banned in waves you could be looking at weeks or months of farming without getting caught. It's a pretty self-sustainable model these botters have been given by Blizz.

Technical question: How do I slow my computer down? For some reason D3 is running on what appears to be overdrive. The breathing animation looks like a seizure, and monsters are fighting as if they had their own internal frenzy shrine. It moves jerkingly.

Try capping your frames per second in the video options and also make sure vertical sync is checked.
