That's a pretty crappy way of doing things, especially without telling people beforehand.

Yeah, you can get a digital download version here. You can even start the download now. You can't install it until 10am PDT tomorrow, however. Hell, you can't even purchase the digital download version until 10am PDT tomorrow. But if you don't plan on getting a physical copy, start downloading now, so you can buy and install right away on Tuesday after 10.

Thanks for this. Got it started last night. Pretty crappy that they start throttling down their http feed to you once they detect peer to peer traffic is coming through. They were giving me between 100-150k/sec. Once I turned off peer to peer the game was downloading at about 1MB/sec.

Chumps.

I can only imagine the people who got home with the game, only to discover they couldn't play it because they didn't have their DSL hooked up or what have you. Internet required games piss me off, because they don't allow flexibility. For example, I often want to play games on my laptop at campus. Unfortunately, their proxy or whatever doesn't allow any type of connections to occur, so you can't even log in to play Bejeweled 2 on pogo.com, let alone Warcraft or Battle.net stuff. So, if I'm at campus, I'm forced to play a stripped down single player version of the game, without achievements, stats, profile info, rewards, or any of that fun stuff. *Groan*

All of that aside, I'm really enjoying the game.

I got a call from Gamestop. They sounded surprised I didn't pick it up at their midnight release thingy. (I was boycotting it) I guess I'll pick up my copy on the way home.

I plan on boycotting the installation for at least a week, but I may as well pick up the collector's edition that was my birthday present last year before they sell it to somebody else.

What's your reason for boycotting, if you don't mind me asking?

It's my own protest aimed at RealID. Sure, I'm eventually caving and buying it anyways, but then, they don't have my billing info as I don't play WoW, but I'm not so eager to play it (especially after years of waiting and playing some of the beta back in May anyways) that I can't hurt their first-week discrete login stats in my own small way.

I'm not a fan of RealID, but I'd prefer to make friends with people I somewhat know (Glade Folk) rather than randoms.

If anyone wants someone to play with, here's my info:

Character Name: Roophus
Code: 665

By the way, take it easy on me. I'm a relatively casual/noob RTS player. I'm working on the not sucking part.

Spoiler:
Holy ****! The Zeratul mini campaign is so mother **** epic, I can hardly think straight. I was very surprised to see Tassadar again. But the last mission where you just get attacked by wave after wave of zerg and hybrids was so amazingly awesome. And as time progressed, you started getting protoss heroes. Good lord, I loved that ****. And I'm glad Kerrigan is basically the only hope the entire universe has. She's been my favorite character in the series since the beginning. Now to finish the rest of the game.

I played the first 3 levels last night. I have to say the in-between-mission areas are great. I'm hoping there's some easter eggs in those.

I like the idea of being able to buy improvements instead of continually researching them. I also really dig the idea of hiring out for elite mercs. Of course that makes me want to watch those mercs like a hawk because they're so damned expensive (at least for the moment).

Holographic, bikini-clad exotic dancer in the Hyperion cantina dances like a WoW Night Elf.

This game is so full of epic win it's unbelievable. And yes, the soundtrack is great. The background music (not the jukebox, which is cool too) often feels very...Firefly.

Hey, how do I access the mini-protoss campaign? I can't find it.

I'm curious, having not followed the development of this title: Have they shifted gameplay at all away from base building/micro-management to favor more action/tactics?

Ex: think DoW II

Not in any significant fashion.

Well, I take that back. Not in the multiplayer. Single player wasn't in the beta, and I haven't started in on it, so I don't know how much the upgrade unlocking in the campaign affects the base/resource management aspects in the RTS campaign gameplay.

You'll find it during the storyline. I just unlocked it last night

It doesn't change it that much. But buying the upgrades saves you from having to upgrade certain things on the Barracks sub-facility buildings, for example. You buy your Stimpack upgrade in the Armory before a mission and your marines/firebats start with it every level thereafter.

The basic upgrades at the Engineering bay, like gun damage and armor are still present though. Its just special abilities, so far as I can tell.

One thing that kinda annoys me about the normal storyline missions is that they are all basically timed. Sure, they don't have a timer up there at the top of the screen, but you are always having to do something that rushes you.
Spoiler:
There's a train you have to destroy every couple of minutes and you can't let 3 of them escape! That **** can't hear you and you have to keep up with him and protect him as he rampages about! The sun is totally destroying the planet as it rotates, so collect that artifact before you are burned alive!
It gets kinda old after a while. I miss the original Starcraft levels where they fill up about 90% of the map with enemy bases, give you the last 10% with a small base and tell you to destroy everyone. Those kinds of maps are rather rare in Starcraft 2.

Tried multiplayer for the first time ever in a Starcraft game and really discovered just how clueless I am when it comes to this game.

Though, I did win. I had my Terran rampaging through his base & he simply quit. :(

I seem to be doing decent in the story missions, but I worry how bad I'll suck when I go to play online. I hope they're right that Battle.net 2 will match you up perfectly with someone of the same ability.
