With the arrival of patch beta 1.7, our interest in Minecraft has waxed, and so we started a new Gladecraft server. This server is running vanilla 1.7, and it's a brand new world. So if you were put off by joining the server and seeing a lot of the world already tamed, you don't have to worry this time; it's definitely not tamed.

The server is running on my home connection, and you can get to it at gladecraft.gladerebooted.org.

I need to do some maintenance to try to fix a spawn point issue. If I can't fix this with the current map I may need to generate a new one.

edit: I was able to move the spawn point successfully. "Teiws", I may need to transplant you manually since you're probably still on top of the mountain at 0,0.

I created a couple of things last night/this morning.

First is a slime spawning pad. I built the spawning pad at around elevation 11 going down Raph's ladder. You can tell when you get there because it's glassed off. It's just a 16x16 5-high room with a 3-wide water channel running through the center. The slimes fall into the channel (theoretically) where they're swept into a splitting chamber. In this room, the larger slimes (there are 3 sizes total) are drowned until they split into the smallest size slimes. These slimes are directed to a ladder, where they climb up to about elevation 21. In this room they're directed up another 4-5 meters then dropped, where they hopefully die (I haven't tested this killing mechanism yet). When I checked the spawning room this morning, there were 4-5 mid and large sized slimes. After going through the splitting chamber, there were about 30-40 small slimes. I didn't have the killing mechanism yet, so I had to kill them all by hand. This ended up being pouring lava into the collection room, because slimes in SMP are glitchy. As is almost everything else in SMP.

Second I built a boat dispenser/dock outside. You get into the boat and it launches you a full speed into the water. You navigate into the inward channel, get out onto the pressure plate, and the boat is whisked back into storage. The current issues with this system are 1) it's a pain in the butt trying to navigate your boat into the 2 wide dock, and 2) it releases 2 boats at a time.

My friend modded his server with an RPG system.

It basically skills all the things you can do in game. Mining, Excavation, Woodcutting with a 0-500 skill level system which is progressed by performing said activity.

For instance, leveling up mining makes you more efficient with a given grade pickaxe, gives you increased durability and increases the chance to drop multiple ores from a block as you increase.

If I had one complaint about vanilla, it's that the abundance of iron and diamond are pretty low. Diamond isn't bad, but iron should be far more abundant. Either the game world should spawn more blocks together or they should drop large amounts of iron from a single block.

It's kinda broken right now because you have to be an OP to open it. I'll fix that tonight or tomorrow morning.
I moved the spawn point to an island near the base. I also fenced it in so no mobs can spawn or enter the area.

At this point I want to just keep 1.7 and use industrial craft and a few other good mods. Notch doesn't know what he's doing. They continue to add stupid useless **** with no grand vision that I can see, while not improving on the game I like to play. His lack of support for the modding community is baffling to me. I pray for the coming of a Mine Craft Savior who will make a clone, but have their **** together and not spend all their time making dumb tweets and designing new zones people will never go to.

I have no idea what state the gladecraft server is in right now. I've been kind of ... busy lately. Did they release 1.9 final yet? If so, I may hop on tonight. 1.9 would probably justify starting a new world on the server.

Jeb announced a couple of release candidate builds on twitter yesterday. The server is now running the RC2 build. This should be more or less what what we'll be getting for the official launch at Minecon on the 18th.

Minecraft is out of beta and releasing on time!

Server updated to 1.0.0, and we've started a new world. There's hardly anything there yet, but we do have a hovel near the spawn point.

Edit:

If you get the "server responded with an invalid key" thing, try restarting the minecraft client and/or hitting the refresh button a few times on the server list. It's an annoying bug in 1.0.0. It will work eventually.
