Formerly known as Final Fantasy versus XIII, announced at the 2006 E3. As far as I can tell it's no longer part of the XIII "universe" and is now standalone. This marks the first radical change in play style for a numbered FF game. The play style looks to be like a more mature realization of the Kingdom Hearts gameplay. Trailer: Battle Gameplay: |

That looks distinctly Proto-Shinra, if you ask me. I am excited, though, that XIII Versus is now a cross-platform stand-alone. XIII was probably one of the better entries in the series, barring the 35 hour long tutorial. |

The first trailer does faintly say "Fabula Nova Crystallis" at the beginning which does still indicate that it's part of the XIII "universe". Not sure how I feel about that, but whatever. I've been waiting for this game for almost 7 years so I'll take anything at this point. |

I haven't played XIII-2, yet, by the way. Does it deliver in the same way XIII does? Mind you, I honestly think XIII is the best playing game in the franchise since VI. Not necessarily the best entry, just the best in terms of gameplay since then. But I also think that's ONLY true if you invest the time and energy into understanding how combat and synergies in combat work, as opposed to the standard "Press A to Win" approach. |

I like XIII-2 much more than I like XIII actually, but it didn't deliver on all fronts. The alternate endings were a bit disappointing, but the improved systems in the rest of the game more than make up for its shortcomings. As for gameplay, I'd say XIII-2 > X-2 > XIII > X > XII IZJS > the rest You might want to finish up XIII-2 before XIII-3 Lightning's Return (or, Final Fantasy: Majora's Mask) comes out |

Oh god, the jump cuts. Its like it was filmed in Bay-O-Vision. Its certainly very pretty though. Even if I have really no idea what is going on. |

Something like that. Maybe its my aging eyes, but its confusing as hell Also, in a world where guns are all over the place why the hell would you use a sword? But that's more of a genre nitpick. |
