To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time they've been available for purchase in a long, long time. I wonder how much hacking they had to do to get around the EMS memory requirements. I remember loading my machine with a customized boot disk to play these back in the day. Good times. http://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_xwing_special_edition http://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_tie_fighter_special_edition |

GOG tends to run things through a DOSBox emulator, so I'm thinking they didn't need to hack all that much. DOSBox is pretty good. |

It's too bad they're not the Collector's Edition (multiple ones, there was a specific one with a silver or gold banner that was better). They updated the games to use the X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter engine as well as modified some of the harder missions in XW to be a bit more manageable. The original X-Wing was pretty brutal when it came to difficulty. You had to memorize the missions (after many failures) in order succeeed. I enjoyed it, but I was also a 15 year-old with a ton of time to devote to that game. Does TF include the original Stele Chronicles? That was an awesome read and a nice bonus to get with the game (and a testament to a time when game booklets were an awesome part of the game-owning experience, unlike today). |

I'm pretty sure they are the Collector's CDs. |

They are the Special Editions. Comments seem to indicate they are not the Collector's Editions. |

Those screenshots certainly say no. *looks on GoG itself* Ok, so it looks to be a combo of the 1993 game and the 1998 updated version. But, as one reviewer put it: "This does not include the best version of the game, X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM, the version that had digital sound effects. This is just the floppy version and the 1998 version." Still, the 1998 version is far better than nothing. And it looks like TF does indeed include the Stele Chronicles. Nice job, GoG! |
