Finally, I'll be able to remove my X-Box 360 from my entertainment center. Harmonix has announced they're working on Rock Band 4, and are looking to ease the transition by working with Microsoft and Sony to see if they can make the new game backwards compatible with previous instruments. In addition, they're planning on converting the backlibrary of DLC and want to make sure we don't have to re-purchase the same DLC content we'd already bought on previous consoles. Again, that's partly in the hands of Microsoft and Sony, but they seem optimistic about the cooperation they're getting. The DLC bit is huge, for me, as my brother and I have a rather embarrassing amount of DLC tracks between us. The instrument backwards compatibility is probably less interesting to me, as we've come pretty close to wearing out the old ones over the years. |

Yeah, I'd be fine with new instruments, but the backwards compatibility and free ability to download any previously purchased DLC is HUUUGE. When we were doing regular rock band party nights, we'd get on and buy tracks beforehand, so the collection has grown nicely. Surprising to think that it might be a game like this that pushes me to get the next gen of consoles, so far nothing console exclusive has flipped the "must have" switch this generation. |

Will there be any songs I care about? Probably not, so I'm sure I'll skip it like all other American music games, but good news to those who like it! |

It's impossible to play J-pop on a physical fake instrument. Maybe Hatsune Miku will make a cameo. I got rid of all my plastic instruments years ago. |

Harmonix Forums wrote: Hey gang! First off, THANK YOU for your interest in Rock Band 4 – getting the game to market took every ounce of effort that we could muster and we really appreciate all the support and feedback we’ve received from the community. Bringing the franchise to the new consoles meant a complete re-architecture of our engine and, along with the work it took to support last gen’s DLC and instruments, this was an enormous effort for us. However, our plan has always been to provide continual updates post launch, and from the moment we launched on October 6th, we have had our team hard at work developing new features. We’ve been quiet about the details, UNTIL NOW! I am wicked excited to unveil the feature set for the 12/8 update: Features:
With the details on our first major update out of the way, here’s some insight into our long-term plans: We are planning for monthly updates of varying sizes – some of these updates will contain bug fixes and performance improvements, others will include new features. Our backlog is comprised of:
We’re working on some tools to provide visibility into our long-term development plans. We want to keep you informed about what we’re up to! At Harmonix, we have never offered this kind of visibility into our future development plans before. We’re doing it because we want you to be informed and help us make good decisions about how we prioritize our work. We ask that you please understand that the development process isn’t entirely smooth – sometimes features get delayed or pulled based on testing, performance, first party delays, etc. Because we’re developing this stuff live, we may not always be able to give an exact date for a feature or bug fix. However, we CAN keep you informed about what we’re working on, how things are going and when we hope to deliver. We’re really excited about this December update, not only because we think these features add a lot to the Rock Band 4 experience, but because it’s the first of many updates in our ongoing efforts to make Rock Band 4 even more fun for all of you. Stay in touch and we’ll do the same! -Daniel Oooh. Auto-kick. I may actually play drums again. It's not that I *can't* use the bass pedal, it's that I've always been frustrated with the complexity scaling curve on the bass drum. I'd rather play without it and stretch my comfort level on the rest than struggle to keep up with the bass drum on some songs even on Easy. The return of more granular post-song performance assessment metrics is welcome, and the social score competition bits look like they'll be implemented in a fun, but not overbearing way. My setup hasn't had gross calibration issues, but improvements for those who do (and tweaks to improve all, I suppose) are never unwelcome to hear about. Maybe this will deal better with one controller on a legacy adapter and the rest native RB4 controllers better -- the two guitars don't sync up identically as is. Folks are speculating that the recent game tie-in Rock Shop stuff is going to be Fallout 4. If that means I get my grungy post-apocalypic chainsaw guitar (from RB1) back, I'm more than okay with that. Older news, but still worth mentioning in case you missed it, and this December 8th patch is likely the specific time it'll hit, though it's not mentioned above: Rock Band 3 song catalog imports are coming, and will be a $14.99 re-license fee. Money well spent, in my book. |

Update looks great! I'm really excited for them to get the RB3, 2, and 1 song catalogs back into the game. (as well as the lego and ac/dc expansions). And the barbie dress up store definitely needs more items. I'm glad it looks like they've spent a lot more time laying a better groundwork to put patches out than they did in the previous games. |

I am against auto-kick. If you can't kick the bass, maybe you should take up the tambourine. |

Rock band is a game about pretending to be rock stars. I'm not handing people my guitars when they come over and being like "If you're gonna play Megadeth in my house you're gonna do it for real!" I have fun playing real instrument with my musician friends, and rock band with my pretend musician friends, and if they need no bass pedal to give them the confidence to get on the drums, go for it. These are games that should allow everyone to pretend. |
