So, there's a few folks at my work that like to "play" a particular mobile game called Summoners War. It's a game sort of like a mish mash of Final Fantasy and Pokemon, where you build a team and fight other AI controlled teams. Even "PVP" is pretty much you set up your defensive team and others will challenge that team, but your team will be controlled by AI as well (so, no need for active defense).

It even has an "auto" feature when you want to just grind through levels if your party is strong enough (AI takes over your team as well). It's ok but not really my style.

Imagine my joy when I discovered there's a similar game out there (well, there are a lot of similar games I suppose) that got released in November, except it's based off the Star Wars franchise! Star Wars - Galaxy of Heroes

I quite enjoy it. It was this article that really made me decide to give it a shot. The author sort of poo-pooed the game but then came back months later saying that "Yeah. I've been addicted and playing daily for months."

I like that it doesn't require a ton of time to play, and that even though it has pay elements, a person who doesn't want to spend money on it can still be competitive. There's a guy on youtube called TinyGrimes who is just such a player. Though he admits to shelling out only 5 dollars for the Dark Side pack (with a high chance at Dooku, a strong team member) and that it was the only thing worth spending anything on.

It's available for iOS and Android, though I've read that it will not sync accounts between the two OSes. I am excited to see how they expand this game, as there are several tables (you play in a cantina on a hologame table) that are obviously there for future development (one looks like it might inlclude starfighters!).

If you're looking for a fun time-wastey mobile game that doesn't require a ton of time to play at each session and you like Star Wars, sort-of-Pokemon-ish team building, and RPG-ish elements, I'd recommend giving it a try.

It's fun. Frustratingly high costs for new team members (it should take a lesson from Marvel: Future Fight in this regard...new characters shouldn't cost upwards of 80 credits).

It's one of those that I'll log in every day to get the daily rewards and occasionally stick around to play. Gets a little cheap in its combat as you progress, which I assume it wants you to grind, but again, the cost/value system for progression is a bit out of whack. Mostly fun, though, and looks pretty nice.

I'll agree that it can be a bit steep. Although compared to other similar games I've played, it's at least nice to know that if you're looking for a particular hero that (most of the time) you can work on getting it eventually, guaranteed, rather than praying to RNGesus every single day. I have several coworkers who play Summoners War. And one person in particular has been trying for 5 or 6 months just to find a particular monster, that isn't even the rarest of the rare (but still a strong healer).

I personally expect/hope improvements and tweaks to be continuously made, since it's still so new. Regardless, even if it never changes I still quite enjoy it.

I'm still playing this game. Haven't missed a day since posting.

This sunday they are introducing guilds and guild raids. I'm starting up one. If anyone is playing (or wants to start) and would like to join, you are more than welcome to. My one and only rule is: Keep guild chat family friendly. The guild will be "Mountain time" if that is important to anyone to know (guild raids will be based off the time zone of the guild leader).

The game is very passive when it comes to PVP. You fight another person's team, but they aren't in control of it. It's less frustrating this way, I feel. The guild raid will also be passive, in that everyone can contribute to taking down a rancor but don't all need to be logged in and doing so at the same time.
