So, there's a few folks at my work that like to "play" a particular mobile game called Summoners War. It's a game sort of like a mish mash of Final Fantasy and Pokemon, where you build a team and fight other AI controlled teams. Even "PVP" is pretty much you set up your defensive team and others will challenge that team, but your team will be controlled by AI as well (so, no need for active defense).
It even has an "auto" feature when you want to just grind through levels if your party is strong enough (AI takes over your team as well). It's
ok but not really my style.
Imagine my joy when I discovered there's a similar game out there (well, there are a lot of similar games I suppose) that got released in November, except it's based off the Star Wars franchise!
Star Wars - Galaxy of HeroesI quite enjoy it. It was
this article that really made me decide to give it a shot. The author sort of poo-pooed the game but then came back months later saying that "Yeah. I've been addicted and playing daily for months."
I like that it doesn't require a ton of time to play, and that even though it has pay elements, a person who doesn't want to spend money on it can still be competitive. There's a guy on youtube called TinyGrimes who is just such a player. Though he admits to shelling out only 5 dollars for the Dark Side pack (with a high chance at Dooku, a strong team member) and that it was the only thing worth spending anything on.
It's available for iOS and Android, though I've read that it will not sync accounts between the two OSes. I am excited to see how they expand this game, as there are several tables (you play in a cantina on a hologame table) that are obviously there for future development (one looks like it might inlclude starfighters!).
If you're looking for a fun time-wastey mobile game that doesn't require a ton of time to play at each session and you like Star Wars, sort-of-Pokemon-ish team building, and RPG-ish elements, I'd recommend giving it a try.
